My new t has a limited private practice, what does that mean? I feel embarrassed asking him that for some reason like I'ld be prying. But I was curious if that means that he has been in some kind of trouble or something. Is that something I should be concerned with?

Im mostly concerned because of my last therapist.

hmm maybe it means that he only works part time as a T?

I guess that could be it. I think I have a paranoia complex after dealing with what my last t did to me. Im concerned about gettin envolved with a t that has a corrupt theraputic past.
But that does make sense on a more rational level, lol. |

hahaha I can relate to that
![]() Also, i think if he's putting it out there that he only does a limited practice, that is like totally leaving it open for you to say, 'what does a limited practice mean'? and if he says something fishy, you will know. But since's he's stating it outright...I bet he doesn't have any weird things going on...B/c if he had been in trouble or something before, surely he wouldnt' want to advertise it like that? Or maybe .... Hmm speculation gets me into trouble. I'd just ask him. Or if he has a secretary? I find they are wonderful sources of basic information if i feel like i dn't want to bother T about something small.. |

My T is employed by the health system where I am, but she also has a limited private practice. In her case it means limited in terms of the hours she devotes to it. And I suspect also in terms of the clientèle she sees.

I agree with ripley. It probably means he only does this part time. He may have some other professional endeavor he works on the rest of the time, or perhaps he works in a hospital setting the rest of the time. Something like that.

Yea, I bet it's like what dfh932 and ripley said--
The T. counsels part-time. best to you ![]() fins

That was a very logical question BP !!! Nothing to feel silly about at all !!!
If you want to make sure you understand, ask T the next time. You can phrase it kinda like this if you want: (( Just what I would say - not telling you what to say )) "T, you said you had a limited practice. I was wondering if that means you only do T work in certain hours? I wanted to know because if I need to call you, I would not want to call outside of those limited practice hours." |

if it makes you feel any better, i check all of my health care professionals each year on their licensing board because i'm paranoid that way too. it's what we do to make us feel safe so that we can actually go in there and do the work we need to do. you're just making this safe for you. that's not anything silly, that's something to be proud of! |
