Eileen, I would have been freaked out if a T put their hand on my back too! Good luck with your new T. I know what it's like not being able to talk in therapy, so I hope you will be able to do so with this one.
Granite, thank you. Like the title says, it's "uncharted territory" for me and very scary! Chaotic, what exactly is bodywork? I know my T believes in mind/body connection, and when we do IFS, asks where in my body am I feeling something. She advocates yoga for relaxation, too. I think that's why she's so open to using touch as healing in therapy. Maybe I will hug her at some point, though it seems scary to me. Having her sit next to me and hold my hand would be intimate if it didn't start out by being something I did with my eyes closed and imagining I was a child. It's not ME; it's a child doing it. A hug would have to be in that context too. |
