One of my students has committed suicide. He was a wonderful, funny, inspirational kid who lived with the demons that come with bipolar disorder.

I'm really hurting. This hits so close to home. I called and left a message for my t. This is really triggering for me.

Collin, you'll be missed.

I have known two people who have committed suicide - my uncle and an aquaintence - and the pain and endless unanswered questions of the people left behind is overwhelming. I'm so sorry.

I hope your T can provide you with some comfort.

I often feel that if I respond with what I am thinking that it will be hijacking a thread with my concerns. I wonder if his being wonderful, funny, inspirational meant he felt so out of place in his society...

I'm at such a loss today. His brother wrote a letter to friends to be open about any struggles with bipolar disorder; do not be ashamed. I wanted to reply, but I didn't. I'm not really a friend of the family so I don't feel it's my place to intrude. I am angry that this disease takes so many lives. I'm sad about the loss of such a spirit.

My t and I played phone tag today and never did make direct contact. He told me he believes he has an opening tomorrow if I'd like to come in. I'm going to try in the morning to get in to see him.
Thanks for this!

Maybe you could write that email now. Not necessarily to send, but for yourself and for your student.
