Hey everyone! Back from my 10 day vacation. Had a great time, for the most part, although dealt with a number of migraines....All in all, a nice vacation.

During my last session with T, we started delving into some past trauma...and we agreed that we would get back into it at the next session after my vacation.

Well, my next session is tomorrow....and I'm having trouble with the idea of going back to "that". After my last session, I was having some real trouble with putting it away...and I asked for a session the first day I returned from vacation because it was eating away at me...Well, now the day is approaching, and I don't want to go back to it. I was able to put it away for my vacation - and I hate the idea of having to open it back up again.

So, how do you do it? How do you go some time not addressing something and then access it again? I kinda numbed myself to it and it seems so far away....no longer at the surface.

I'm glad you had a nice vacation, MUE! Even though you decided to go back to the hard stuff right away, I think it's better to wait until next session and spend the time tomorrow just reconnecting with your T, and not getting back into anything too deep. Then, next week you'll probably be ready to start again.

Thanks, Rainbow! I will certainly take time during this session to reconnect....and if we get to a pause, maybe I can ask T to help bring us back to the topic because I'm having such a hard time doing that. I usually avoid this kind of thing, and each week in T, I tend to work on things that have come up....and I know that by putting it away, it won't resurface for a long, long time. And T lets me decide what's talked about during the session, so he generally won't bring it up unless I do....I need his help to get us back into it....because I know next session would be much of the same - avoidance. It's hard.

I know what you mean. In that case, I'd for sure do what you said--tell T you want him to help you get back to the hard stuff. Good luck today!
Thanks for this!

Of course it's not at the surface, you'be been away and not concentrating on it. I would start today's session just reviewing what you worked on before you left, adding a bit of depth and a few more details to that one. A "refresher" session.
