seems silly, i know.
i'm thinking about bringing up my problems with dissociation with my T next week. however, i tend to be a bit... shy. i usually let her lead the conversation and mostly just answer her questions. only a couple times have i really opened up and just talked about... stuff.

anyway.. i've been seeing her since last october. not very long. and i don't really know *how* to bring it up, you know? but, i was thinking, if she opens with her usual 'how have you been?' sort of question, i can just say 'i think i'm having some problems with dissociation' or something like that.

but here's the catch.. she's a social worker. if i do have a dissociative disorder, i don't know if she's qualified to 'treat' me. does anyone know if she would be? i feel like we're finally established pretty well and would hate to start over with someone new at this point.. but then, we don't have much between us at this point really, so i suppose now would be better than later.

hmm.

i see her next monday, so i have another week to ponder it all.

its not silly. bring it up to her, just like you said you would and the way you said above. im sorry but i dont know if she can help you, being a 'social worker' but you could ask her this too. or just type this up and bring it with you...

dont ponder it too much, if its on your mind then its important to you.

good luck.
Thanks for this!

I dissociate a lot. Actually, I lose time (I'm not DID) and we talk about my "going away". I don't know about your T, but I see a LCSW and she is comfortable treating me.
Thanks for this!

I am a master's level therapist with my degree in social work - and yes, we are qualified to treat dissociative disorders.

Good luck. Bring it up as you described, with stating that you feel you have a lot of dissociation that you feel needs addressed.
Thanks for this!

stormyangels and doogie, that really helps to know, thank you.

i see an LISW. i know she sees people of all ages and i do like her and feel comfortable with her. i just didn't know what all the titles and letters after the name mean when it comes to treatment, you know?

I think there are many different types of dissociation. I also tend to just 'zone out' and lose time. It does affect me and I've brought it up with my T.
I think it's important to tell your T everything; it's the only way to make therapy really beneficial
