Hi everyone! Kind of new to the forum, I've been lurking for awhile. I've been dealing with romantic transference issues and was wondering if my T could talk to their spouse about this? I know they could refer specifically to me but I'm just wondering if they can discuss it in general, like if they had a hard day at work? Who can they talk with it about besides supervisors? Just feeling vulnerable....................

That's a good question! I know that teachers in my area usually can discuss general things about their students, but are encouraged not to name them. If its a big issue they can only discuss it with approved staff members and can only explain to their spouse, "Hard day at work, sorry, it's confidential".

T can probably say something general without using names, just as my T will say something about 'another client who (such and such....)', in giving an example of something.
But I'd say confidentiality prohibits anything much being said to spouses! I don't want my T to say anything to her H about me....unless she says, 'so I have this awesome client who said/did such an amazing thing today' without being more specific than that! ![]() |

Supervisors, consultants, and if they're at an agency other colleagues there.
Typically a therapist builds enough supports so that they can leave "work stuff" at work. They may come home and mention that it has been a really challenging or rewarding day, but spouses don't really need any other details from that. T's want to protect your confidentiality, and also want to protect their personal time so that they're not bring work stress into other relationships. |

Thanks everyone! That's really good to know. I thought that was the case but was not sure. Oh sometimes it is so hard being in therapy.

Mine told me that she accidentally used my name to her BF once by accident when I was in crisis. She phoned him and said "I am going to be home late because I have to take Cats to be admitted to the hospital." Other than that, she is very vague.
