I have an appointment with a new pdoc today. My old one wouldn't see me anymore because I wouldn't follow his advice. I'm scared. I REALLY liked my old one, but have this need to be in control of everything. UGH sometimes I'm my own worst enemy.

Hey Echo,
It seems unfair that your old Therapist stopped seeing you for this reason as doctors can't force anyone to take their advice, it is always the clients right to make the final decison. However perhaps having a new therapist will be positive for you as they may have different suggestions to help you that you will find suit you better. I hope it goes well for you xxxx |

I agree, it is unfair that he would do that.... I mean, isn't the point of therapy to help you, it seems like that is giving up on a patient. So sorry you are having this stress in your life and I will pray your new therapist is as kind, warm-hearted, compassionate and understanding.

I don't know what to tell you (other than I hope you have learned something that will help you with the new pdoc?). I don't know what "advice" your doctor gave you, whether it was med-related or something else. If it was med-related, I can see where that would put him in a "useless" bind, as that's what he knows/is good at and if you don't want what he's offering, I can't see why he would continue to keep taking your money? What did you like about the old one that you wouldn't try or "follow" his advice? I wish you would tell me more so I could better understand why you won't try what a doctor suggests but then berate yourself for it?

Back from my appointment with the doctor and he seems to be understanding. I'm terribly scared of taking medications so in the past with the old doc, I either didn't take the recomended dosage or would fuss with him in his office. The new doc, seems to understand my fears and is taking that into consideration. I tried to be honest (which I wasn't always with the old one) and I made my husband attend so he could keep me honest. I agree, it doesn't do any good to go see someone when you don't do what they tell you, but my fear is a pretty big stumbling block.

GOOD, it is very good he (she?) understands your fears! It is legitimate not to want to take meds out of context. Otherwise it is like if someone walked up to you on the street and gave you a pill. Some people need a little bit of context and some people need a lot. It is ok to want a lot, IMO you can't be too careful what you put in your body and brain!
Glad it went well ![]() |

Like Last Year said, you can't be too careful about what you put in your bodies. Also the tapes from my childhood...my parents NEVER went to the doctor. If you had to take medication, it meant you were weak or something.

Well, taking medications certainly doesn't mean that you are weak. I think you know that.
There are some really good medications out there that can genuinely be of benefit. I would try to keep all options open.
