I am in the process of changing T's...I want to keep my old T until I see the new T for 5 sessions to see if we match...Will my new T request the old T's notes (records) or are those my old T's?...I don't want my new T knowing I'm seeing my old T or vice versa until I see if the new T and I match....Thanks Tay

New T may request your records, but you do not have to agree to release them. They can only be released with your approval.

RN license means she has nursing background in physical health prblems like broken bones, and so on.

Certified clinical social worker means she is taking classes for the mental health field and is at intern level which is where she can see clients for mental health therapy but she has to meet her supervisor for "supervision" on all her cleints. She could also have completed her requirements for supervision and intern hours with clients but has not yet taken the state boards (exams) to recieve her state license for mental health therapist.

Clinical psychologist has already been through classes, internship, supervision and has their state license and most times has a specialized field that they work in (marriage and family, pediatric therapy, or specialized by disorder)

Neither one is allowed to dispense medication prescriptions.

And yes the new therapist will want your past therapists records. Though the actual files are not sent a photocopy of your complete file is sent to the new therapist.

Hi, Tay, and welcome!

Well, as I read it, the t your considering doesn't even know that you're currently in therapy, so if you do decide to keep seeing her it would be up to you to tell her that you even had another t. If you told her, she might ask you how you felt about the transfer of information.

My t knew that I saw another t for a very short time, but didn't request any records. However, he knew that I only saw this other one for a very short time.

I guess that, if you even decide to t new t, she might ask you about records. However, it's my understanding that the decision is totally yours.

Again, welcome! Good luck!

I am going through this right now, in fact.
I just saw a new Pdoc and YES she does want my records if I want to go back. I think maybe it is up to the individual doctor.
I think a person should be able to check out a certain doc before committing to their treatment. Esp. if you are not sure you will click with them. I am not wasting money on someone I really can't talk to easily. I would rather try one until I find the best fit..so why transfer records.
She wants my records by the time I go back. And she
does agree with my original diagnosis.

Currently psychologists who complete additional specialized training and earn a certificate (or some other kind of designation) can prescribe meds in Louisiana and New Mexico. There are a few psychologists in the armed forces who also can prescribe. The armed forces (I forget which branch) developed the first training program and model for prescribing psychologists.

Many other states are pursuing this, but it's a slow process.

yea I found something on line. I haven't read it all through but the jist of it is all but 13 states were in the process of a law or code so that in the future psychologists can in those states wanting this prescribe meds. I read in on no sleep for 2 days so I may be wrong heres the link:
