Mysterygirl, you don't say how old you are.
I think having a therapist would be really helpful for you.

I say---go ahead, see a therapist! And if you are concerned about what she might tell your mom, tell her so and see what she says.

skycastle makes a good point. When you first see T if you are concerned about what they will share with you mom then you need to ask T what their policy is. It is hard to ask those questions at first, but having that information will help you know how much you can comfortably share.
Thanks for this!

I think if you are feeling really anxious, then seeing a therapist or counselor is a good idea. When you first see the therapist, you can talk about confidentiality with her so you know for sure if there is anything she might tell your Mom. My daughter (age 17) has a therapist, and the therapist keeps what they talk about in their sessions very private. Good luck to you.

Anxiety will out and it can take a zillion different, individual pathways. I'd talk to someone and, yes, would mention your eating and self-harm difficulties, they sound like part of the anxiety of feeling you have to be the "good girl" for others.
