I discussed this with her tonight. She explained she was trying to be empathic. She admits she probably didn't word what she meant to say very well. She could understand if I was feeling suicidal because she'd possibly feel that way herself under my circumstances, but she wasn't insinuating I should commit suicide.

I explained to her I'm not suicidal. Frustrated about my situation? Yes. It's been cleared up, I'm happy with her explanation of things, and I believe her on the whole to be a good therapist.

Congratulations, Lycanthorope! Congratulations for doing what many of here on this forum fail to do!!!!! We make assumptions of what our therapist thought or meant in what they said or did (and truth be known, many of our therapists word things awkwardly or outright wrong!), but you didn't let your own assumption of what "she meant" to get in the way. You went back and checked it out with her! You are definitely making the kind of progress we ALL wish we could make in our own therapy! Good going!
