Does anyone doodle during therapy? Sometimes I have the urge to just randomly draw as we talk, and I often wonder if that's ok...or would it be too distracting?

I've been urged to do this as well... But I consider it slightly disrespectful as it may come across as me not giving my full attention to the conversation, so i try my best to stay engaged...

Have you thought of asking T? My T wants me to do creative stuff so maybe you could incorporate it into your work?

Could you explore it with your T and say that it is an urge and you don't know if it would help or be a distraction, but could you try it to find out? SD

I've colored mandalas in session. i see nothing wrong with it if it helps you feel more comfortable. my therapist was very accepting. i don't think it's disrespectful at all. art can be therapy, after all.
just think of it as part of your process, lostmyway ![]()

I can do artwork (draw and paint) and still fully engage in a conversation (with the added bonus of not having to look at anyone). I would ask T if it is okay.

I doodle all of the time during therapy, especially when my t is reading my journal. It's doodle or bury my head under my coat, I've done both! If I am being disrespectful I think she would say so. When my t wants me to respond physically in a certain way, like sitting up and trying assertiveness, she will give me instructions to do so, so I know she would stop my doodling if necessary.

Interesting question about knitting. No, I don't knit. I don't doodle either but when T and I once arranged for me to finger paint I did that while I talked and it was wonderful!
