I didn't realize how many people pay out of pocket or their T's don't take insurance. I just assumed that all Ts did. My T takes insurance, and I pay $25 co-pay every vist... I go 1-2 times a week depending on how I am doing that week. I am also suprised to see that my t's charge per session is the cheapest I have seen in this thread he charges $110 for 40-60mins sessions.

I pay the full ($80) fee out of pocket. However, when I was switching jobs and moving I was a little short on cash. I told T I might have to go to 2x a month and she immediately said, "why don't you just pay what you can". She didn't make into a big thing at all, although I felt very uncomfortable about it. I paid about $50/session for a month or two and then when I got settled I went up to the full rate again. When she realized I was paying more, she asked if I was sure it was OK or if I needed more time at the lower rate.

I know she takes my insurance, but I don't use it because of my security clearance. I'd rather pay out of pocket and keep it unofficial.

glad to hear im not the only one "forking out the dough" i know its worth it......its just one of those things where i think my hubby and i are going to disagree on "how much this is helpful or beneficial". right now, he knows it is.....but i think there's more to be dealt with than he realizes.

I pay full price also ($150 US) and occasionally have to pay for a phone call. I try to limit the phone calls. I do not want my private medical insurance involved in my mental health as they tend to label you for life. So most of my income goes to my therapist, but I also see it as an investment in my future.

my insurance hasn't ANY mental health coverage... so I pay out of pocket--
thank goodness the T. I see charges a reduced rate
I don't phone- unless I have to miss a session or for a couple dire emergencies(police and/or hospital), and I have only emailed an average of 2 times a year, in the four years I've been going.

Luckily I have insurance through my employer and pay $20 co-pay per visit, 1x/week. They did a review at the end of one year of sessions, and I told T I would pay for it myself if they didn't agree to continue paying. Yeah, it's that important that I would pay out of pocket if I had to.
