...My T onces said I should take a leadership positon at work...hmmm ...hate decision making, responsibilty and so on. Maybe it was some kind of reverse psychology LOL ...

Have your T ever told you something about career choices and what makes a good leader anyway. Are there any personalities more suited and would you enjoy being a leader? I would not...

I'd be a terrible leader.
A good leader would delegate...I'd do all the work myself.
A good leader would do what's best for the team...I'd be trying to please everyone.
A good leader would be brave and step forwards...I'd be hiding in the back.
A good leader decides what needs to be done and does it...I would be in too afraid of making the wrong choice.

I am sure there are more things that define a good leader.

I was a leader before I retired and there were aspects of it I liked very much. Mentoring people, helping them work out problems with their projects, that kind of thing. I wasn't fond of dealing with budgetary stuff and layoffs.

WikidPissah....Wow that descripes me an my "non leadership" abilities perfectly! Wonder why T said it though. Maybe reverse psychology or maybe she just read me all wrong along the way.

I get bored once the idea of the project is set (I have half finished things all over the house - once I figure out a solution I have no compulsion to finish the project - figuring it out is the interesting part to me), am not great with detail unless I am really into the idea of it, and really do not want to have to listen to people tell me stupid things about themselves that do not matter to me or the project.
So I would say maybe.

T said she could see me being a union leader "everyone out" lol. But I know for sure my desire to attack authority would be the drive behind this and have to keep that under some control or else I would go extreme. I just know this about myself.

As an Army officer (and the only female in an all-male unit) I have had to become a leader. I am physically small and am a very quiet, introverted, low energy type of person but to my surprise my soldiers like and respect me. There are all kinds of leadership styles, but people will respect you and follow you if you prove that you are knowledgeable and willing to work hard. The Army can (and has) written books about the various leadership styles and even they recognize that there can be more than one way to get the job done.

Yes and no. In the educational arena I do take on several leadership roles. I find, however, that outside a school setting, I am not nearly as comfortable in leadership roles. I've done it, and probably well, but it is stressful for me.

I am usually the leader. Not that i always like it. My T is always encouraging me to do stuff to reach my potential. Would you like to be a leader? There are definitely pros and cons to it.

I agree....I am a good leader TO THE EXTENT that I can inspire and motivate and energize people.

I am a bad LEADER (though getting better) TO THE EXTENT that I don't like to say no, and don't like holding people accountable.

This means that I do well with focused teams when they mean business but do worse when placed in charge of slackers.

It all depends.

I suppose I am a good leader in the sense that I am a good parent and can handle my 4 kids pretty well, in keeping them on task, dealing with issues/conflicts/disobedience and keeping things decently organized and efficiently run in the household. I do like to be in charge and can be authoritative.
But otherwise, on a larger scale, in the work world or in society in general, I don't think I make either a good leader, because I am independent minded, not great at delegating, and haven't always got patience to deal with all the small details or the planning and execution of a big, important project. Nor do I have the patience or desire to deal with all the 'politics' involved in dealing with the people themselves, handling conflicts, being the one who has to have the answers or the ultimate responsibility, etc .... I also have too much of a do it by myself in my own way mentality, too. I am also unconventional and contrary-ish. I am afraid I am not a good follower either ....

I think I could lead. But it would have to be a small team.

I do find responsibility very heavy.

I have found myself in leadership positions many times, and I do well at it. I can be a very good leader. However, I am not comfortable in the role and would prefer not to hold leadership positions. I know that preference can hold me back in my career, but I'm much more happy in a non-leadership position. The exception to that is that I am very comfortable in a teaching or mentoring position and enjoy when I find myself in that role.

I think I could have potential to be a good leader, I'm going on my skills as a mother, and I believe I could transfer those skills elsewhere but it will take some work with T before and if I want to use those skills in leadership. I think I would be assertive yet quiet.

I am often a leader at work & in my personal life. I am very decisive & will take charge if I feel things aren't being handled efficiently. I have trouble forcing myself to consider the emotions of other people; I'm more focused on getting the job done. I am not a people person.

I enjoy being in a leadership role and have been in several. I worked as a nurse manager before quitting to return to school - ran three departments and was responsible for over 100 people. I loved the creativity aspect, motivating people, mentoring, solving problems, inspiring upcoming leaders. HATED anything to do with budgets or finances. I miss working I'm working really hard to ensure that my illness is under control when I finish school so I can go back. I miss the comraderie of my coworkers and taking care of patients.
