Do you think there's any chance that since this site is so popular that our therapists could possibly also be reading what we write?

I know it wouldn't occur to most to even look but I mentioned to mine today that I had found this online psychology site and met someone I could really identify with there and then I wondered if, since he's a relatively new to me therapist, if he'd know exactly what site I was probably talking about and do a cursory search and see all my posts and know exactly who I was! I hope not!

My T had heard of this but does not read it. He has his own support site that is for men. I think many Ts are too busy being Ts to read about other Ts. LOL.

I too have mentioned the site to my T. She said it sounded interesting, but I don't think she's ever visited.

My new pdoc's 2nd job's website (in addition to his private practice, he is director of inpatient care at the local mental hospital) lists Psych Central in their links, so I think he may know of the site, though I doubt he has time to visit.

I've never considered she might come here. She has many interests and family and a full schedule. I once offered her a book after I was done reading it because she mentioned that she had heard about it and was curious about it. She declined, saying "where would I find the time?!".

Is there a fear, or a wish, that T would come here?

My T would much rather spend his time out of the office in yoga, riding his bike, fishing, hunting, walking his dog, out with his girlfriend. Sitting in front of a computer reading about more therapy patients and their problems after spending 8 hours listening to therapy patients and their problems is probably the LAST thing you would catch him doing. He is very good at making his time outside of work HIS time.
Thanks for this!

So, maybe also a wish for therapy too, and a fear also? A wish to be able to communicate in a different way maybe, since writing is easier for some and would be indirect communication if you were to write and would happen to read.

And the fear may be the same as the fear in therapy, of being vulnerable and known.

I don't know, but am responding from how that might work with me, or might have worked with me earlier in therapy.

What do you think?

The web is large. There are dozens of other sites. (None as good as this one, of course!)

Many T's read the articles here. I'm here only because I too have a history and my own journey. I like giving support where I can. Many of my colleagues would much rather do things that have nothing to do with therapy
Thanks for this!

Yes, I once mentioned to mine how she was a psychologist so reacts to things a certain way in her personal life and she reacted rather strongly in the negative to that idea We've found similarities where we both took sailing lessons the same place and she told me she'd taken guitar lessons (not what I pictured for her :-) but therapists are just regular people and probably not into doing "work" when they are on their own time.
