we sent our counselor and email asking for us to be considered for weekly sessions-this was her reply we just now got:
Unfortuantely I already have a "waiting list" for folks who need an appointment. I stay very booked at my office and that is why I put aside the time at *churchs name*...I have no other obligations there we have been on the "counselor merry go round" for way too long now and NOTHING ever works out for us. we officially quit ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Oh TrinityDancer, I wish there was anything I could say or do or any advice I could give to make it better. This must be so difficult for you. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Other than this scheduling issue, do you like this therapist? If you do, don't shoot yourself in the foot by totally quitting working with her. Every other week is not ideal for you, but being completely without a therapist is probably worse. If you don't like this therapist, then I would guess that leaving her has more to do with that, which would be completely justified, than it has to do with the scheduling. If every two weeks is the only option, find a way to make use of what you can get. Isn't some professional support better than being completely without support at all?

after going from 2x a week to 2x a month-no its not. not when we are left struggling and on our own for 13 days following each time. no its not. we understand what youre saying but no,not any more. we so envy those of you whose counselors stick with you no matter what, make time to see you and dont go away. so very fortunate

I know how you feel. I was there 3 yrs before I found the T now. It is sad, depressing and upsetting. I wanted to quit, instead I just rested and kept looking.

TD, I know it's really, really hard, but do you think that you could try to find another counselor? You're in so much pain and have some tough things to work through. Sometimes it takes completely going into despair and then some for things to start turning around. I know that you had a very bad experience with a previous counselor and this one seems unable to meet your needs, but there are some good ones out there. Did you try the Psychology Today website? (Are you in the US?) I found my wonderful T there and others on PC have reported the same. http://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/
Keep posting. It's so great that you were able to express your needs to your counselor. She might not be the right one for you, but there are good ones out there! I wish you the very best of luck. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Oh, I wish she could do something to make a bit more time for you ..... it did seem from what you've said of some of responses to you in session that she did really care? I really wish something could be worked out with her .... but if not, I would also encourage you to look for someone who is able to give you more time. Perhaps this counselor would be able to refer you to someone else?
I agree with farmergirl, too ...... I would be worried about you having no professional support at all. You have so much going on, so much pain to deal with .... maybe something is better than nothing, at least right now. My heart goes out to you ....... |

Perhaps it doesn't have to be an either/or. You can begin looking for another counselor while still seeing this one. Continue going to your appointments to get some support and explain your situation: once every two weeks isn't enough for the issues that you have going on and as much as you like her, you need to take care of yourself by finding a T who has weekly (or twice a week) availability. She might also be able to suggest some names. She knows that this is an issue for you and it seems that her schedule will not allow for more sessions/she won't change her schedule to accommodate you, so you need to take care of yourself by finding another solution. All of this is so much easier said than done, particularly when you are in a depression. If this seems overwhelming, is there a friend or family member who could help you to get the ball rolling in looking for another T?
You're doing a great job... keep at it. Safe hugs. |

theres really nothing else left out there for us. maybe if we had a boatload of money we could afford a real counselor or a long term IP center but the reality is we just dont.

I belong to a multiple's group on LJ. I got a list from somewhere there who has a big resource base for therapists familiar with DID. That's how we came across "expert-T". If you want to just PM me your state/general location I can try to see what I can pull together?
