have you ever had a moment, stemming from your therapy work, a moment that felt like a miracle?

i've had mini miracles, little things that amaze me but never seemed worth mentioning...

but today ... i was reading the thread 'Passive Death Wish' ... and it started me thinking, remembering how i've felt in the past .... and i had a thought that made me tear up. ... "I want to live."

never once, in my whole existence have I ever had that thought. I cry everything time those words float across my mind.

this is what therapy can do. this is what's possible.

Life... is possible.

You almost make ME cry, rainbow_rose. I am very, very glad that you had that thought. Yes, therapy can do that. I'm not sure if it's happened to me like that, but I'm happy for you. Thank you for sharing your miracle.
Thanks for this!

A lot of us in the DBT group call it our "light bulb"' moments where all of a sudden something makes sense. It is an awesome feeling.....glad you have had those miracle moments for you....it means that the therapy is really making sense to you

My therapy miracle is that I realized, and can say, "I'm loveable." Thanks for sharing, r_r. What a beautiful thing.

I had one this week, in fact. I told T I caught a glimpse of my reflection in a store window on my walk in to his office, and in the past, when I see myself like that, shortly after I have started a diet and exercise program and am feeling fitter, I say to myself, "oh, but i'm still fat," echoing (i just realized now!) the declaration my brother once made when I was in 7th grade and had finished my first diet - I had just one slice of bread at dinner instead of multiple, cut out 2nd helpings, and exercised in my room, completely sensible and healthful. It was only when my mother involved herself in my dieting that I got messed up.

Anyway, back to my revelation. This week, when I saw my reflection, I said, hmm, my belly doesn't look as big as I thought it did, it looks nice, I look beautiful! And T said, "Yessss!"

The first time I "failed" the store window reflection test, I was almost 100 lbs lighter than I am now (30 years ago), so it's not about actual size, it's about mentality and positive attitude toward your progress. Good thread.
Thanks for this!

Oddly enough I had this happen this week. Ill share the email I sent to my T yesterday. ***Trigger warning for sui***

"I always viewed suicide as a contingency plan growing up. I guess I considered my family would be upset, but it wasn't until last week and this week you really made realize something. I never knew my ups and downs really worried you, or had any affect on you until the talk we had on Monday. I guess by you telling me that, I realized how much you do care about my outcome. Maybe I'm not so worthless..? Then what you told me today, makes it so hard for me to ever consider giving into my thoughts. How could I give up on myself, when someone is so unwilling to give up on me? I would have never realized any of this if it weren't for you. As long as you never give up on me, I promise I won't give up on myself."

He replied to me...deal.

For the first time in my life I'm not seeing suicide as backup plan, and I think that's a miracle.
Thanks for this!
