I have read here that some people have drawn pictures and given to T...I have drawn something not as a gift but kind of how I am feeling right now.

I am wanting to show it to her, but at the same time nervous about it. Like I know I will kick myself if I don't show it to her, though.

Any tips on how to be less nervous about it? I feel silly posting this, as it is def not a huge issue and seems really trivial, but...asking anyway!

thanks

If you are going to kick yourself for not showing it to her, then all I can think is that it is better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done. I would also think that your therapist might be very interested to know that you are thinking about your therapy during the times between your appointments. BTW, this is not trivial...your drawing might just be very good material for a therapy session and could lead to a break-through. Good luck!

Nervous Nellie that I am, I have no advice for how to feel less nervous.

Just do it anyway. Like the previous poster, I think it's a good idea and will probably spark a good discussion. I can't imagine a T NOT wanting to see a drawing you did. So just do it. Maybe do some deep breathing right before the session? Or maybe give some thought to why this makes you so nervous, since it isn't really that big a deal. What are you afraid of? What's the worst that could happen?

And good luck! I really hope you do show it to T.

One thing I do sometimes is tell T that I have something to show/tell him, before I do it. Then I can't get out of it! I don't have too much advice for making the nerves go away... I still get very nervous, and have only become less nervous by doing it over and over again and having things generally go ok. Mostly, I just kinda trick myself into doing it the first one... two... hundred times .

Good luck

Starting by saying "There is something I'd like to show you" is a really good trick. I've done similar things. And remember - it only takes 20 seconds of courage!

Let us know how it goes! I have had good results with showing artwork to my T. One quick thing, though, he had an odd look on his face at one point, and kept looking from the artwork back to me. I was really worried about that for a while and it took me some time to ask him what he was thinking. By then, it was hard for him to remember. So, my only advice is that if you have questions about her reaction, the time to ask is during the session.

The first time I brought something to T, I told him at the beginning of the session, "I have something to show you" and then it honestly took almost the entire 90 minute session before I was brave enough to do it. It was, weirdly, one of the hardest things I did in therapy...but it was also healing, because I worked through a fear, I experienced T's positive reaction when I finally did show him, I proved to myself that I can do things, even when they're scary.

It got easier over the years. But that first one was a doozy.

I will have to print out all these great suggestions, and try again next week. I blanked out totally when I got in there. My picture was in a folder to keep it safe and I kept it too safe; out of sight out of mind. Soooo Tuesday will be the day! Thank you all!

aw nevermind! it's not like there's a time limit.

maybe next week take it out of your folder before you go into your session?
