Today I go to my first therapy session. I'm a little nervous because it's been years since I have talked to anybody on that personal of a level. I'm also a little nervous that my therapists will be a man. I have some personal female, out of whack hormone, problem, and I'm embarrassed to discuss this problem with a man. But I definitely feel this issue should be discussed and my meds probably be adjust a little bit.

I hope I'm able to open up and be treated as an individual instead of the stream line of numerous patients they see daily. My mother once seek ed treatment from this facility and made it clear that that was there rep.

IDK, I think there's only one real way to find out, and that's to try it out.

I hope all goes well.

Good luck. First Therapy Session

What helps me is writing down some things before going to the appointment such as -

Why do I want to be in therapy?

why do I need to be in therapy?

What do I want to accomplish during therapy?

What are some ideas on how to accomplish that during therapy?

What am I willing to do during therapy and incorporate into my home life -
Talk?,
Journal?,
Workbooks?
Classes (for example anger managememt, depression management, Anxiety management, parenting, ...ect..)?
Group therapy - support based and or Therapy based ?
Medication?
ECT?
Hospitalizations?

What are the things that I am not willing to do as a part of therapy and incorporating into my home life?

Variations of these type questions are usually asked at the intake appointmnets and the first few appoinments that are the ones where the therapist and client start forming goals and filling in the required goals for therapy forms that go into the files and is usually submitted with insurance questionaires in order for the insurance company to pay for the sessions.

My place ask my preference male or female. If you want a female, ask for one. It is important that you feel comfortable being able to open up to the T. Therefore, feel free to make this kind of a request if the topic is a female hormonal topic. I know I would not have wanted my pap smear done by a male doctor. (I forget to ask before the appointment. But, she wasn 't a man. Thank God.)
Good Luck.
