Hi Everyone,
Kind of random but I guess it does have to do with therapy since there are life coaches and a psychologist on the show. Starting over, for those who don't know, was probably one of the best reality shows ever, sadly canceled in 2006 and for some reason they can't put it on DVD! People have uploaded some eppisodes, but not enough. I'm gonna post a video asking for people to upload more, because I think so many could benifit from it.
The show had six very different women living in this house at a time. They'd each set goals, and the show would show their rogress, relationships among the housemates, drama and all. Even with the drama, many of the exercises were thought provoking and you could tell worked. At any rate it was a better reality show than some of the other stupid stuff they have out there now.
Anyone else have thoughts?

I've never heard of it but it sounds intriguing. As for not enough online uploads... Try typing "name of the show, season __, episode ___". Tvlinks.com, onetvshows, megavideo, are great for links...

Hi Everyone,
Miswimmy, are you sure those tvlinks and other websites are safe, as in won't give your computer viruses or malware? The last time I tried to go on one, I think it was watchtv.com, I got malware. That was the beginning of the end of my first laptop! I'm so paranoid about that happening again. The only video site I trust now is youtube, though I'm sure you could probably get a virus from there if you do the wrong thing too.
I'll post a link to an eppisode for everyone.

I hope others can upload more of this show.

funny, I was just thinking of Rhonda on Sunday! The other woman, can't think of her name, V-something? was on Oprah's closing year, I think TWICE, I just happened to catch it, discussing what happened between her and Oprah, and somewhat with the show.

Her name is Iyanla Vanzant.

I have a shelf full of VHS tapes of Starting Over episodes that I taped years ago. They are about to go in the trash. Just thinking about Rhonda Britten makes me so angry.

I really liked her on the show. So, in 2006 I signed up for a retreat she did in Texas. It was the biggest waste of money I've ever spent. I was so excited to get the chance to meet her and learn from her. It was a small group of women at this retreat. OMG, this woman is pure mean and full of herself. All of us who went were sorely disappointed that we let ourselves get to the point of shelling out several thousands of dollars to meet a woman who could have cared less about any of us.

She lied to me several times during that week. She really hurt a lot of people that week, and since then I can't stand her. I don't take anything she says to be honest or authentic, because she's awful and fake. I'm still friends with a girl I met there and we shared stories about how terrible that week was. Never again will I do something like that.

I'm so blessed to have a therapist who knows her stuff, because back then I was trying to figure things out on my own and Starting Over was something I watched because I thought it might help in some way. Thank God that He put my therapist in my life.

Can you tell I'm not a fan of Rhonda? Ugh!

oh peridot, that's horrible! I thought one of the male T's on the show was a little iffy, I did not want to be in a locked room with him I did enjoy the women's stories and the makeovers, but the table sessions and whether you would graduate or not, was a little too stressful for me. so I wonder if that was rhonda's thing, competition, control? but what a terrible childhood she had. how do you ever recover from that.

Hi Everyone,
Parroted, I'm so sorry that happened to you with Rhonda! I guess people are different off camera! She didn't strike me as inauthentic on the show, actually she was my favorite life coach. I always thought Eyanla was way too pushy. But I'm so sorry you and others went on this retreat and were treated so badly. I can actually understand why you're throwing the tapes away, though part of me is kind of sad because I still love the show and wish those could go to someone who might put them on youtube. Though I totally get why you wouldn't want to do that!
I'm glad for you too, that you have an actual therapist. Good for you!
Hankster, the psychologist on the show was Stan Katz. I thought he was nice, for a male T. Never been one for male ts so I guess I'm biased.
Yeah, Rhonda had such a horrible childhood. To see both her parents killed? Never mind any abuse that happened before that. Maybe she actually has a personality disorder which could explain a lot about her wanting control, acting different ways on and off camera, wanting to be on the show in the first place for attention ETC.

I loved that show too!

I know Iyanla has some books out there but I never read them. They are supposed to be good. I think she was on Oprah once in a while too.

Best,
EJ

P.S. Peridot, that is so sad! I'm sorry you experienced that!

Hi Everyone,
Just posted my video request. We'll see what happens.
EJ, I'll have to check out Eyanla's books. I think Rhonda wrote stuff too.
