I see T 2 times a week and today, I emailed to see if we cant scale it back to once a week. 2 times is too much. I know there are people on here who say whey would jump at the opportunity to see T 2 times a week, but believe me the grass isn't always greener. I stay in my head to long. I'm never grounded. Hell, I don't even know what that means. All my T's have ever done was talk..no exercises or breathing or tricks to ease the mind. Just talk and I'm finding I don't have enough time to process the talking... like at every session something earth shattering needs to occur....its causing me to push me too hard...am I even making sense? Uggg.... I guess like with anything its moderation, I wonder if he is going to say I'm only saying this for some other reason, ie.. he is too close , I'm afraid ...what have you. Although I am not denying the fear and the closeness and the not wanting to be dependent or abandoned.... yada yada yada... in the end i think its just driving me more crazy. Does anyone else ever feel like this?

i don't know if it can make you crazy but i think it can most definately keep you in your head .maybe you need to back off and breathe a bit so you can process things.i know for me in a way i was glad i had two weeks inbetween that statement i made to T and the next session. maybe some time to process would help moce things along

hey I thought you made progress on the homefront this weekend - is that what you're backing away from? ie backing away from success?

Not sure...its possible. Although I think keeping my mind and body busy instead of replaying over and over each session, and then BAM another session.... may in the long run be better for me. I need time to digest the Kool Aid...

i have T twice a week and have had more sessions per week in the past. i'd say that at times I do feel crazier BUT I think this is the chicken-egg argument. It's hard to tell. I do know that overall I am better.

I don't think there is anything wrong with backing up a bit. Maybe try once a week for a few weeks and see how it works out? When you are constantly seeking contact via email/phonecalls/sessions T becomes your whole life, sometimes we have other parts of life we need to live as well. It's not a race Lola, if it's too much slow down.

Teach me to post on 2 threads at once....
No Matter T said "That is fine".... to me that doesnt come across as I thought it would, now I feel bad for asking. ![]() |

Did you want him to beg? (kidding) It sometimes feels really sucky when they just agree with us. My response from ex t to termination was, "ok". Ick. Maybe a "could we talk about it", or "are you sure" would have felt better.

I think it depends on where you are in your healing and what you need from therapy. Some people really need two sessions a week, others would feel the same as you that they are ungrounded and more caught up in the intensity of the stuff. If two feel too much then go back to one. Personally I couldn't work with two sessions a week but I think therapy would become my life rather than be a helpful backup to it. But some people are dealing with such a high intensity of stuff anyway that two sessions would help contain it better. As I said, it all depends on where you are ane what is going to be most helpful to you at this time.

That would be dream response to me as well but....then it would be about his feelings and not yours and you might feel that you should stick to twice a week for his benefit.
Ugh therapy is SO HARD! |

Two times a week works for me. I find that "saving" the earth-shattering topics for my 1st session of the week allows me to think about it (for the inbetween off day) then we talk about it, kind of wrap up the topic on my second visit. Then I can have a good weekend usually.
Then I panic a bit the first part of next week thinking about what hard topic I think I may be able to handle. Good luck whatever you decide! |

Lola, this is totally off topic but did you sort your T out after he said that comment that he could make you cry? I was just wondering because maybe this is hindering your emotions towards therapy? i HOPE THIS IS NOT THE REASON- MAYBE YOUR BRAIN IS JUST FRIED FROM ALL THE TALKING AND PROCESSING.

I cant even trust myself to tell if I'm lying to myself or not...see Hankster's take on the situation, above. Sometimes I just want a hard reboot.... you know turn it off at the tower , wait 5 minutes and then restart and hope that what was causing the system to fail, has fixed itself. |

I spend the day before feeling sick, the day of in dread before the appointment and then usually frustrated rage for about two days after. Going twice a week would probably kill me.

Another option is to have 1 two hour session per week, that way you have the same therapy time but just all at once which means you'd have the rest of the week to relax.

I think a two hour appointment would just give me more opportunity to actually have my brain blow out or suffer an aneurysm or die from a fit of apoplexy in frustration at the appointment itself. Has anyone tried this? LC - did you ever have a two hour appointment?

i just know that i had a two hour session once and it was awesome, plenty of time to thoroughly relax in to the session and say all that needed to be said and i was actually ready for the session to be finished. Sometimes with an hour... time is up and you feel like "i'm not ready to leave"

I utilize my insurance and I don't think they allow for 2 sessions in one day, I may ask though. I think Chopin has done it too. Thanks Asiablue ![]() |
