Has anyone read this book? I know it's coming out as a movie (And I personally think books are always better than the movie version!) and have been invited to see a screening of the movie.

I remember reading somewhere about this book being a bit rough for some people because of the nature of the story (a character commits suicide?) and as I try to avoid books that are triggering, I don't know if I should read it and go to the screening or say no thank you.

it was an excellent book, you should read it.

but it is really beautiful...

"and in this moment we were infinite..."

logan lerman is absolutely perfect to cast as charlie. perfect. totally believable. super cute but still a little awkward.

the mention of suicide is at the very beginning of the book about a character we dont know. we meet him in the past tense as someone who committed suicide. I dont see how it would be triggering unless looking at the word suicide is triggering for you. it is not a central tenant of the book. It literally lasts like two pages.

i think the word "trigger"is being SERIOUSLY overused and generalized here as anything at all bad. this books intended audience is teenagers. yes it has a sprinkle of suicide, but the mention of csais SO VAGUE people literally missed it in first and second readings and had to go online to verify thats what was being hinted.

this is an AMAZING book and the bad things are nothing crazy descriptive or a punch in the face. if this thread isnt triggering you, hell, if pc in general doesnt trigger you, neither will the book.

in fact ill even email you the book and you can read it with the free kindle app.
Thanks for this!

Speaking as a CSA survivor, I didn't miss it. It made me drop the book. I know what triggering means.

im acsa survivor too, and it was so vague i had to re read it a few times.

but i guess that whats in the book was so mild compared to what happened to me that i didt find it a big deal.

i guess we all have different levels of sensitivity and i respect that.

I'd say it might be difficult for anyone who has had to deal with resurfaced repressed memories. Or anyone who does not like reading about grief or sadness after a friend commits suicide.

At least that was the case for me. But I still do think it is a good book.

Wow, thanks everyone for the input! I do love to read, and used to be able to read anything without freaking out. With all the therapy work, I am a little more sensitive to things, and yes, even on PC, I will hover over a topic and read that little sentence that pops up, and oftentimes avoid a lot of threads as to not get triggered.

I really appreciate all the perspectives. I currently am on the waiting list at my library (for both the kindle and the actual book) and will let you know what I think of it once it's done!

Again, thanks for all the input, it's been quite helpful!

I get you. I do a little better with books, but I will get up and leave the room at anything upsetting in a movie or on TV. I can't handle it.

Yeah, before therapy, I was able to watch any movie or read any book with no issues. I had an 'oh that is interesting' response to even the most traumatic stuff. After therapy, I have all these weird emotional reactions to stuff. Just another of my secret super powers that therapy has destroyed. LOL.

i guess im the opposite. i purposely seek out what could be considered triggering material. i think i am looking for something to approximate my own experience.

mysterious skin
bastard out of carolina
gardens of the night
spitfire grill
lucky bones

i know i listed these, but i do not recommend you watch them if you are easily triggered bc they are the saddest movies ive probably ever seen in my life.

Well, it was definitely an interesting read. I was captivated by Charlie, and triggered by him at the same time. The story was so well written and each character was so clearly pictured in my mind, I don't know that I'll be seeing the movie any time soon, but I did enjoy the book, I think!
