My T has never given me a store bought or homemade gift ..
What he has done in the 2 years I have been seeing him is.. Going above and beyond learning and researching ways to help with my Fibro pain. He has gone out and bought books, read countless studies, contacted top notch medical doctors to discuss different treatments and ways to naturally decrease my pain.

He has given me the most important gift I could imagine.. helping me live my life with Bipolar and giving me hope for my chronic pain, something my medical doctor couldn't or wouldn't do.

I am beyond lucky that my T honestly cares about my mental and physical well being, they both go hand in hand.

Before i went to visit family earlier in the year T gave me two bracelets remind me of her, and so I had something tangible to remind me of how much progress I've made. When I went recently she offered me her scarf but I said no.

Both times it was super lovely, and not as weird as I would have imagined it being.

No. I think it's a boundary with him. Last year at Christmas I gave him a small gift. He thanked me and gave me a small wrapped chocolate from a jar on his desk. It was only there that one time, so I think that's how he reciprocates if someone gives him a holiday gift. He's pretty old school and a boundary ninja.
Thanks for this!

Secretly, I wish she would - some small keepsake - but she won't, I'm sure.

My t is going to be gone on my birthday... She said "i have your birthday covered..." I'm nervous as to what that means. I wish I could have a gift but I don't wanna get my hopes up. Maybe it will be a card...

Bunny, Have you read the blog, Tales of a Boundary Ninja?, it is pretty good and your post reminded me of it. I have not checked it out in a while. I would link to it but am not sure if that is allowed.

What does the phrase boundary ninja mean in terms of a therapist? It would seem that a therapist should hold the boundaries and a ninja would breach them in silent stealthy ways. And I have even read that blog and still don't understand how the two words fit together with a therapist.

Good point SD, perhaps boundary samurai would be a better title.
