I have an appointment with a new psychiatrist next month! The shrink I have now is ok, but I find he doesnt listen to what I'm saying, and he doesn't take me very seriously. I understand that PDOCs are very busy, and have patients that need him a lot more than I do, but thats no excuse. Every patient has a right to a psychiatric evaluation. I dont know if I've gotten that, actually.

Anyway, enough shrink-bashing; I'm really glad I am getting a second opinion. Maybe even get a few meds shifted around.

Is there anything in particular I should do to prepare for this appointment -- besides making notes of symptoms, meds, diagnoses, issues...?

Hi Dez,

Write down any questions you may have. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the session that I forget my qustions if I don't right them down. Other than that, it sounds like you have everything right in hand.

Hugs,

Jan

Yeah writing things down is a good idea.

You could also say something about how you wanted to see a new p-doc (the person you are going to) because you didn't feel like your old one listened to you or took you seriously. That way your new p-doc will know that it is important to you to feel heard and if you don't feel heard then you will move on to seeing someone else as well.

It is always a little scarey meeting someone new. I hope your new p-doc is a better fit with you :-)
