My T recommended the book, The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle. It's not a new book; it was published in 1999, I think.
Thanks for this!

It was the start of an entire series of books. I suggest getting it through your library even if it takes a while. Not worth the money. And as for the audio versions, I'd suggest skipping them entirely unless you are having trouble getting to sleep.
Thanks for this!

I found the book fascinating and it has helped me get through some tough times. Of course, like anything else, it's not for everyone.
Thanks for this!

Agree on audiobook. I was in school forever and i can read a lot of boring stuff, but I got the audiobook and just could not manage it. I was so turned off, I didn't even try to read the real book.

I have heard the some people really like it. Oprah does, right?

Best,
EJ

My T likes it. I know it's about mindfulness and spirituality, how to live in the present, and that's what she believes in. She thinks it will help me. I'll get it from the library. I rarely buy books anyway.

Have you read any of the Jon Kabat-Zinn books? I found them much more readable.

Here's a short version, and it is easier to read.

http://www.searchwithin.org/download..._awareness.pdf

7 pages - and by the end of the 3rd page you may have everything you need from it anyway.

Yes, it was given to me as a gift several years ago. I love Eckhart Tolle. It's mind-stretching and very enlightening. Great book!

Here is one favorite quote of mine from Tolle.

"When you look upon another human being and feel great love toward them, or when you contemplate beauty in nature and something within you responds deeply to it, close your eyes for a moment and feel the essence of that love or that beauty within
you, inseparable from who you are, your true nature. The outer form is a temporary reflection of what you are within, in your essence. That is why love and beauty can never leave you, although all outer forms will." ---Eckhart Tolle

Thanks, EJ.
Yes, my T recommended his books too! I actually own one of them, the "Full Catastrophe Living" and I read the one, Wherever you Go, There You Are. I may have the title wrong.

I also like Peace is Every Step by Thinh--can never remember his name.

Yes, I have read this book and gleaned much from it. It's a challenging book for those of us that still identity with the mind. The book states that is is repetitive, as it's aimed for a wide audience and given the nature of the topic, some of us need more softening up than others. It's not a book for closed mindedness and analyzing this book will only play into the very flaw this book focuses on.

Whilst mindfulness is very much the topic, I believe it goes a little beyond your average breakdown on a 4 page pdf. Each repetition of the same subject seems to shine a new light of understanding. It explains in more detail how the mind takes control.

I do believe the book requires the participants to of at least reached that point - rock bottom - in order to truly understand the message. For some, that place is deeper than others. Once you let go of the mind and try not to think your way through this book - its not as complicated that first time you read it. I get something every time I "listen to it" again and again - however I do have a big desire to let go of how my mind controls me, as the more moments I begin to experince in the now, I begin to open up a little more.

Great book - even better concept. It's not about changing the world, it's about leaning to live with what is and growing from there. I only went to grade 8 - suffer bad dyslexia and syntax plus a slow learner - however by adopting the principles this books teaches me, about detaching from the labels and collective cultural thinking - I begin to hear his message a little clearer each time I repeat the effort to listen ... also that effort becomes easier each time.

So much to unlearn, yet so much to gain.

Thanks for letting my have my say.
Cheers

My T recommended the book. I have it on kindle, but haven't gotten through it yet. I found it rather slow and boring. I guess I'm not ready for the book yet.

I liked the Power of Now but like A New Earth by Tolle better. It was an easier read and went more in depth. It's my favorite book ever.

I went through a phase where I really loved that book! There are also a series of good podcasts that Oprah does with him talking about it
