Am I stupid to drive in the snow today?

It's not a blizzard, but snow all day. My H and a friend both think I'm crazy to go to my session! I tried to reschedule or get an appointment early this morning, but T doesn't have anything else. She said I could come at 1 instead of 1:30. I drive very slowly in the snow, and it's mostly on main streets which should be cleared off. It's about 20 minutes away in good weather.

Am I crazy? I went last week in the snow and it was okay but I didn't like the driving. I don't want to get in an accident. I'm not sure if it's the parts who "won't miss a session", my emotional mind, getting in the way, and if I should listen to my rational mind and cancel.

I told my T if I panic or decide it's too bad out I'll call from the road.

Do you drive to your session in the snow? It's supposed to be 6 to 10 inches, but a lot of that will be later in the afternoon.

Because of where I live, I have to drive in the snow all the time. I drove to work and to T in the snow yesterday and will drive to work in the snow again today. If i didnt, i wouldnt have a job. However, I feel comfortable driving in the snow. I know I'm a good driver and am safe on the road. I think it depends on how safe you feel behind the wheel.

Does your car have front wheel drive? (thats good) Are you an habitual tail gater? Cuz that's more hazardous in snow. If you can keep a circle of safety around you - of no cars - then you won't hit anyone and no one will hit you. That's my defensive driving technique - I'm the crazy lady shouting, "Go around! Go around!"

You could make a judgment call at the last minute. If the roads look too bad stay home, the weather people (can't call them weather men that would be sexist) often guess more than predict what is going to happen.

My T cancelled on me today because of the snow, but I still had to go to work! Yes, the driving was slow, but it wasn't too bad. I guess I'm used to it too.

I don't think that it's necessarily an emotion/rational mind thing. Your emotion mind could also be amping up worry about driving in the snow.

Are you mainly driving in a city? That might not be as bad as driving in the country.

The anticipation is worse than the actual driving for me. I worry I'll get in an accident. I could be a good driver but what about the other guys?

Right. They said the roads are slushy because it's close to freezing, but will get worse in the late afternoon. Hopefully I'll be home by 3 p.m.

Yes, it's in the city and mostly on main roads that should be clear. But last week I drove in the snow and that main road wasn't plowed and it was blowing so I couldn't see! It's more suburbany though it's technically the city. Not the country.

IMHO you're not crazy to drive in the snow, you're crazy to LIVE where there is 10 inches of snow.

But don't go by me.

Besides, too many people are deciding to agree with me; we're putting up a sign at the border that says "FULL"

I don't know how bad the snow really is there, but I don't have a problem driving in the snow as it pretty normal around here. Like you said, if you get on the road and it is too bad you can always call and cancel.

I probably would still try to go and if it was too much just turn around and go back. I hate living in the snow zones.

I personally wouldn't but then I'm not in your shoes. Weigh up the risks when it's time to leave and then decide. I'm sure T will understand.

I'm going! It actually doesn't look so bad out now! It's supposed to keep snowing but it's not sticking on the roads! A couple schools closed last night, for today, but it turned out the snow started later than expected. They had snow days, anyway. Weather is unpredictable so I don't blame the forecasters so much anymore.

I always went to work in the snow, was afraid of the jeers and criticism if I did not show up but my husband never did; he said it was not worth my possible health and property damage for one day of work; $100+ for a day's work does not begin to equate to repairing a damaged car or being hospitalized or hospitalizing someone else and the time it would take to straighten all that out, etc. As I got older I began to agree.

Really wanting to go see my therapist (use to have nightmares about not being able to reach her, make my appointment with her, like missing the one and only train somewhere :-) needed to be examined and could only be seen clearly when I could not go see her. That I was willing to potentially jeopardize my health and well being (and hers, what would she have felt if I'd had an accident going to see her?) to get to her, that's a whole different aspect/problem that needs addressing. I still remember doing the same with when I had a cold, was I sick enough not to go, not realizing she had had a childhood illness and getting even a cold in winter (she would go to a warmer country for a couple months every winter) could possibly kill her!

I made it! I had a really good session (will post separately) and I'm so glad I didn't cancel. The roads were mostly wet, and not slippery, but most people drove slower. The sidestreets and my T's parking lot weren't too great, though.
