This is my first time posting here but I just had to, after reading a thread on post-therapy blues. I've been seeing my therapist for my OCD once a week now, for nearly 2 months, and after each session I feel really low, sad and disconnected from him. I miss him terribly and the following session feels like a hundred years away. What's more is that due to my treatment being conducted through an organisation which is part of the UK NHS, I only have a maximum of 20 sessions. So my post-therapy blues are hugely magnified by the emotions and fears surrounding the day when I will have to say goodbye to my therapist forever. I finally plucked up the courage to tell him today, but sadly an hour before the session I was informed that he is unwell and has had to go home. :-( I feel bereft and don't know how to deal with the next seven, long days before I see him next. (Made worse because this coming week is likely to be difficult for me anyway).

I am sorry to hear that you're having a rough time. There are a lot of people here who feel the same way. Hopefully talking about it here will help you a little bit.

Hi, I'm from the UK too. Unfortunately the NHS couldn't meet my needs. I went private where time isn't an issue. Most private pyschotherapist offer a sliding scale.

I don't see how twenty sessions could ever be enough.
It gets worse before it gets better, so in twenty sessions you'd likely get the worse and miss out on the better.

In my country you only get 6 free sessions from the govt plus another 4 in exceptional circumstances.

Hi,
I'm from the UK also and pay privately to see my T. Most T's have a sliding scale, as posted above, which means you can negotiate a fee that's good for you. It's good not to be session limited. I hate the blues and all the emotions after; do you keep a therapy diary? |

I think Rectopath makes a good point about keeping a diary that you write in afterward. It helps a lot of people to think and connect back to their session. I think also keeping busy afterwards helps bring you back into the real world. But i totally get post therapy blues!
There is lots of CBT therapists out there so getting one privately won't be a problem and at least you'll be in control of how many sessions you go for.
