I just graduated and now that i'm going to be at University i'm unsure about whether or not I should see another T. Part of me wants to because I know that i will probably need some emotional support.... but the other part of me just wants to forget about stuff and have a fresh start, you know? ... Actually I've been trying to deal with stuff on my own this summer... but its been kind of rough... although i'm thinking it just might be the atmosphere at home. I dont know what i should do. And as much as I know that i probably should get some help, its just so hard going into things again and i dont know if I want to dig back into everything in order to get the proper help. What do you think?

Hi Jac,
I think its very good that you are asking yourself this question. It's always tough to start therapy with someone new. I remember the first time I started therapy in college. It was tough, but I knew I really needed help. Universities usually have (free) counselling services for students. You could try without for a week or two and see how you feel. Or you could start with maybe a session once every two weeks. In your situation, I would probably go talk to a counselor and tell them what you have said here, and any other concerns you may have. Hope this helps! (((((hugs)))))

I think that when there is a big change in life, free therapy is very wise!! While you have the chance for free help, IMO, you oughta go fer it!! I pray to the Therapy Gods to bless me with the option for free therapy...but alas,...they ignore my pleas.
Seriously, university life is a BIG change, and anyone with previous reason for having a T will need one MORE now. I say, get therapy with prior T or with a univeristy T. Just get it while it's free. (Can you tell that emmy can't afford therapy???) Em |

Hi jacq,
I say go for it!! I only started therapy this past September in university - and it was the best decision I've ever made. I'm dealing with stuff on my own this summer too - and yeah its rough and home stuff can make it more difficult. Start again -- it'll be hard to start off but well worth it. If you can, see if your former T can send notes or speak to any new person you see at university, so you won't have to go through everything you've already talked about with previous T's. Good luck ![]()

I think it might be worth giving it a go. It is *very* hard to keep going on one’s own… and any help along the way would make a lot of difference.
But maybe you want to settle into university life a bit before taking this up? |

I think you should if you even say only half of you thinks so. You can always stop seeing them but something might happen when you stop seeing one or you might find out you are not feeling too well someday so decide on your own then go for it! You could also stop if you do no want to, but I would not exactly call that a fresh start.

I think the others gave great advice. You can try a session or two with a new T, and if you feel that you don't like it, or no longer need it, you can always cancel. If part of you is thinking that you need a T, you probably do, at least for a little while.
