75.00 per hour however that is sliding scale....I do have insurance but my T doesn't accept insurance and although I could save lots of $$ going to someone on my network I wont do it..I have established a therapeutic bond with her and it is worth every penny.

Sounds like t in UK is quite a bit cheaper!

The T that I'm seeing only for the second time tomorrow (so I don't know yet if I'm staying) is a provider on my insurance, so I only pay $30. He's a PhD. xT was not on the list of providers, but I submitted claims to the insurance co. as an out-of-network provider. He charged $120 / 50 min., but ins. reimbursed me about $76. When I started he said he went as low as $70 but left it up to me to decide how much I could afford. I paid him $100 for the first couple of years, then decided that because I got raises, that he deserved one too and so started paying him his "regular" rate. He also was a PhD.

I'm wondering, content30 and 1stepatatime, do you have out-of-network benefits that you could be submitting t claims to insurance for?

I can´t write the price because I´m from country with different economical background so it would not compare. But I can say that my 50min session costs me the same as my food allowence for a week. Which for me is a lot. I can afford it now and I probably could in the near future but I think all the time what other things (much better) I could buy for the money. I´m in the beggining and I worry I can´t afford long term therapy that I probably need according to my T.

Thanks everybody for letting me be nosey

For those of you who say T is expensive, but worth it- i totally get where you are coming from, i absolutely agree with you. I am lucky that my T charges on a sliding scale, as i could never afford her full fee at the moment. The relationship and bond i have with her, is fantastic, and i am lucky to have found her.

This is EXACTLY what i think too, likelife.
I could really enjoy that £20 a week that i pay for my T. I would probably save it up and go on holiday..or maybe get some new clothes!

I dread to think how much i have paid so far in total!

I pay $125 per 50 minute session out of pocket. That was my T's rate when I first began seeing him so he has kept me at that. I think if I were a brand new client, I would have to pay more, since T's rate has gone up.

I am VERY lucky and receive my sessions through a non-profit organization, so my insurance does not cover it. I pay $10.00 a week. I had no idea others were paying so much to see their therapists. Thankful is definitely something I should be.

Wow. Mine costs a whole lot more than most of you. I figure I can't put a price on my mind and my wellbeing.

I see a psychiatrist for med management and psychotherapy in a metropolitan area. He does not accept insurance but I submit receipts and get reimbursed 70%. His fee is $200/ session, so after reimbursement I pay $60 a session.

I also sometimes see a Phd therapist who charges $150/session. I get reimbursed $45 per session for him.

My T is so kind to me, only charging me $50 an hour. He understands that I'm a student and that I'm still on my parents' insurance, and I don't want them to know about my therapy so I don't use insurance.

I wonder if it would be appropriate to give him a monetary gift... just throw in an extra hundred bucks because he's such a wonderful T. I can afford to do that right now and would really love to express my thanks to him in that way. You guys think that's ok?

There is no need to tip your therapist or give him financial gifts. Part of his job is to take care of himself and if he needs to raise his fees, he can do that.

I see a PhD T who charges $150 US for a 45-50 minute session. Insurance pays $125 and I pay $25. I see him twice/week, so it's about $200/month. I was shocked when I added up my co-pays for last year for tax purposes. Then I looked at what my insurance company paid him last year. I put both of his kids through private school last year.

Oddly, my pdoc only charges my insurance about $90 for a 45 minute session, $25 of which I pay. She clearly is not as good a negotiator as T is.

This is exactly my case. $125 for a 50 minute session out of pocket. Her rate has gone up since we started a year ago, but I still pay the $125.

I'm in Southern California. I wonder if those of us from more expensive areas / larger cities pay more than someone from a lower cost state or small town.

I pay $80.00 for 50 minutes out of pocket. I have no insurance. It can be tough on the budget but my T has saved my life so she's very worth it.

This thread was on my mind at the end of my session today. As I handed T my check, I was thinking this is so not worth what I'm paying for it right now.

well lessee... my therapy costs me
some money (but not nearly what T could rightfully charge )
an hour a week in her office
probably 20hrs a week outside her office
a lot of humiliation
by now, a box of pens, seven notebooks, and a thumb drive
my relationship with a very close family member who I finally realized is toxic for me
a crate of Kleenex

hmmm, what else, now...........................
Thanks for this!
