I feel very awkward about telling my pdoc I can no longer afford his sessions. I have insurance, but even WITH insurance, sessions are about $100! Idk why anyone would pay that. I'm going to ask for a referral to a place with a sliding scale (income based).
I just am very non-confrontational and dont know how to say it.

Can you get a referral from your Pdoc for a therapist and see your Pdoc for meds only? Usually those appointments only last 15-20 minutes and your payment would shrink accordingly.

is you pdoc out of network? I found that (when I had insurance) my co-pays were the same for a pdoc as they were for my pcp...

Ouch. That is a lot.

If it were me, I'd sit down and say, "I have to tell you something important. I can't afford to see you after today. Would you be able to refer me to someone on a sliding scale by chance?"
Thanks for this!

Do you have a high deductible plan (HDHP) where you need to pay the deductible before any sessions are covered at your co-insurance %? Might be worth looking into as I have HDHP and end of June I'll finally meet my deductible and my sessions start being covered at 80% so I pay the remaining 20%. My sessions are $145 for 40 -45 minutes has been very costly to absorb, I'll be celebrating after my deductible is met!
