Ok this is slightly bizarre, but I have had a constant headache now for about 10 days. It started the morning after a really bad therapy session where I ended up in complete despair and had a major panic attack( a very rare occurrence). Since then I seem to be getting in touch with the despair feelings a lot more and I it seems to relate to the pain in my head. So more feelings equate to more pain, if I can alleviate the feelings temporarily the pain decreases. Anyone else had anything like this?

Sounds like stress to me but I'd check your diet while you are at it. It's not the feelings that cause us the most trouble but our thinking. "Despair" is a thought, you have to define it and quantify it, etc. and that's all thinking and digging a deeper, more comfy nest for it. Start thinking you are feeling better and going in that direction and eat some protein an go do something "interesting", even if it is still related to your session and its difficulties; just note them as if they happened to someone else so you don't fall into feeling about them.

See your avatar? The spiral goes both ways, tighter and tighter (like your headache) or open and out. . .

I love the avatar observation. Yes I see what you mean. Working really hard at keeping myself occupied with nice things and looking after myself as despair can get very scary. Trying to spiral out not in.

This is an intermittent problem for me. When, I feel stressed, I clench my jaw and my neck muscles. Sometimes, when I do this I develop a nasty tension headache. If I lie down and relax, it gets better. It will return if I start thinking about my troubles.

Being aware of my stress response and mitigating it seems to prevent the headaches.

I'm the same as little_didgee - I clench my jaw subconsciously when I'm having a bad or anxious time which always leads to a headache. Maybe try being observant to see if you're subconsciously doing anything to cause a tension headache like that?

Otherwise, if you're not, I don't really have anything else helpful to suggest I'm sorry, I really hope you manage to get rid of them soon - persistent, ongoing headaches are awful.

Thanks again, just woken up and it's still there so whatever I'm doing its subconscious. Think maybe I need to bring up these feelings with t at start of session. But feelings are too scary to deal with head on. Hey ho don't you just love the therapy nightmare
