Me: you've got a cold.
T: what makes you say that? Me: I can hear it. T: And I thought I was a lot better. But as T said that, she kinda sunk down a bit in her chair/how I imagined her and smiled and appeared to be warmed by my noticing. She didn't try to deflect, obscure, dramatise. She just was in that moment. Why that short incident stuck with me from our last session I'm not sure. Perhaps because I felt we were what we are, 2 adults sharing that immediate space. The space where often I feel like a child. This time I was the adult offering empathy & T was the receiver? And that she 'took' my empathy freely? I'm not sure. It was a nice genuine moment. |

I know that feeling, of being "two women talking" as I call it when talking about it with T.
It says something about us too, I think - that we can take in the whole person that T is. |

I had an experience like that a couple months ago. I have phone sessions with t now since she moved back in november. anyway for one appt when i called her she sounded so horrible, coughing etc I told her "t you need to go back to bed! we can reschedule!" she seemed surprised and very relieved I think that i let her go back to bed. it was nice to feel like she let me 'take care of her' for a change, even if it was just to say go back to bed I'll talk to you next week.

Madame T was really pleased when I sent her flowers after her operation. Nice.
