Ah. Thanks! For some reason that's a holiday that's never registered with me, unlike the UK version (which made its mark on me when I read Dorothy Sayers...)

I hope you have a good Memorial Day, and that the weather will be beneficial parades and grilling.
Thanks for this!

Rain is finally gone, so I went running with my new couch to 5K app. My dog has VERY quickly picked up on the routine. When I went and got the leash and chain I use to run with her, she immediately ran over and sat in front of me and shoved her head through. She has also quickly learned not to pull on me or dart off, and she's pretty polite about asking to stop to go potty so she doesn't jolt me. She is a very cool dog to run with.

I tried to jog with Lex, she growled and tried to grab my sneaker laces. Haven't tried with Sadie. I found an antique flag at a yard sale. The white is aged and yellowed. Hand sewn. Only has 47 stars. Very cool. H hung it as a bunting from the deck. I am not so patriotic, but I do appreciate the men and women who fight/fought for us.

Who's familiar with Nuok mam? the Vietnamese fish sauce. I was going to marinate rib-eyes in this but W and D were pretty adamant they would not eat it. I told them they needed to broaden their cultural horizons.

I love the fish sauce but am not sure it would make a great marinade without other stuff added to it.

My bacon burgers were great. Absolutely great.
The other stuff was good too, but the ground up smoked bacon mixed in with my ground chuck was a triumph.
Thanks for this!

I've had a good day so far. We all slept in till 10am. We had a late breakfast of cinnamon rolls. Then we just finished up grilling burgers and of course all the fixins.
My H and I watched a few episodes of Mash. I forgot how nice it is to just sit and watch TV (an actual show and not reality TV or sports) with him. I need to go slice up the strawberries so we can have strawberry short cake later tonight. My H and my little guy are racing each other on a WII game. My older son is working on school work that he procrastinated with.... Its so nice to feel like myself again.

Which was the winning proportion of ground beef to bacon?
Thanks for this!

Fish sauce is delightful. It is great on many things. But I would think of it as an ingredient rather than the main part of the marinade.

The 1/8 ground bacon to 1/4 beef was voted the favorite followed by the 1/8 to 1/3. The 1/8 to 1/2 gave it moisture but not as much smoky flavor.

Well, this Squirrel procrastinated on cleaning again and will be gone most of the day tomorrow. Looks like it will be a few more days before I can get it completed now. I am so "bad."

Dad called a little while ago to remind me that I had to get up early and be at his shop by 8am. I remembered, don't know why he felt the need to call. Oh well.

Hopefully by leaving so early, we really will be back in time for me to go to my pdoc appointment in the afternoon. I was supposed to see T tomorrow to, but I rescheduled that as I need to take any chance to earn money this summer that I can get. She didn't have anything for next week, so now I have an appointment on the 11th, it'll be weird waiting so long since my last session, but I am keeping the 11th, even if I am offered work that day as I have things that have been "bugging" me that I want to discuss. A few of them I can mention to pdoc tomorrow and get his take on it, but T usually talks through things with me more. Which makes sense since my appointment with her is 45 minutes, versus 15 minutes with pdoc.

I was lazy and didn't feel like making much effort for dinner. So, I cooked a box of mac and cheese. Oh well, not the healthiest thing to eat, but it is food. And food is good to have on a daily basis.

Lola, glad to see you back. I hope things are going better for you than they were.

All the talk about pets made me realize how much mine mean to me. I cried for 2 weeks straight when my last cat died. But 3 months later, I filled the missing hole with a new kitty and love her just as much, though I still miss Missy.

I'm trying to figure out what to eat. I have some tomatoes that are very very ripe, a green pepper, and lots of other stuff but I need to use up those two things. I also have an unopened package of quinoa, which said use by last week....it should still be fine, right? I thought that I would cook up all of the quinoa and then use it for a variety of things this week. Could I cook it and freeze it potentially?

Murray, I'd be making myself some salsa with those tomatoes and peppers!

(( LOLA )) - How are you doing??

Just got back from my sister's house. Had a decent time. Watched the kids swim, ate, chatted. Everyone LOVED my homemade salsa. My sister rarely gives me kudos for anything and she was absolutely raving about the salsa. And everyone loved the Oreo trifle too.

My daughter - all of a sudden - is not feeling well. Not sure if it's an allergy attack of some sort or if she's coming down with something. She looks quite pale too. I hope she'll be ok for school tomorrow.

I just found out that my aunt and cousin who live 10+ hours away are visiting in a couple weeks. My mom said that they said they wanted to come visit my home and see my pets.

Here's the incentive I needed in order to get my butt in gear with overhauling this disaster of a house. Tomorrow, it's ON like Donkey Kong.

I see T again tomorrow...then have group T tomorrow night and see T again on Thursday morning. Crikey - that's 5 sessions + 2 group sessions in two weeks. I'm feeling less crazy - but still somewhat suspicious and guarded. He was SO different towards me that it's hard to trust if he just "switched strategies", or if he just let his own feelings of frustration/anger get out of control and then was able to regroup. I am not totally convinced that my reaction was because I was basically living a flashback this last week.

Today was so nice.... after dinner my H and I were able to spend some time alone. Then I made everyone strawberry shortcake and we watched a "kid" movie that used to be my oldest favorite... we all enjoyed ourselves...

This is a day I will remember for a very long tme.

My sister lives in a town about 20 miles from my house. A few weeks ago, I was at my sister's house, then came home...and a couple hours later, I got an emergency call from the agency for me to go to the hospital in my sister's town - 5 minutes from where she lives. I was like DARN! I was JUST THERE! ACK! So, there I was, going BACK to my sister's area.

Well, tonight, the same dang thing happened. Except this time I was only home for about a 1/2 hour when I got the call. Weird. And frustrating, because I could have made it there in 5 minutes had I gotten the call an hour sooner - instead of it taking 40 minutes to grab my things, drop my daughter off at my mom's and get there.

Now, I'm home and really need to figure out a way to get some sleep....4 hours would be better than none.
