Good question, I agree!
What matters to me in therapy, is just getting out my innermost emotions. I have a hard time letting the "real" me, the depressed me. the vulnerable me, out in the real world, and with T. I don't worry about any of that. It gives me an opportunity to REALLY open up to someone.
