one place i stayed at all i remember is blue tile everywhere. half walls and bars on the windows . i was so so drugged. i remember not being allowed off my bed and a table across my cubicle with a nurse sitting at it. i got off my bed and walked to the barred window and within what seemed like seconds i was grabbed by nurses and dragged back to my bed and more drugs. that was the worst. i remember thinking blue tile city. no walls in the bathroom no showers just bathtubs. big big barred windows .a room with lots of plastic chairs in a row and blue tile on the walls.the floors went up hill with blue tile. i remember people sitting on my bed looking at me.i wanted to get out. but couldn't move

I'm watching episode 1 now. I think it's very good and sensitively done, but I'm really upset because I didn't get any of this kind of help. I was SIing and attempting SU and I was just ignored. The psychiatrist I saw after I tried to SU didn't listen to me at all.

I'm really jealous of people who actually got some help.

I am so thrilled in episode 2 that they did such a through job for Kristal and didn't just throw medications at her. She could have so easily ended up just an other statistic. Trauma is so often overlooked and not appreciated by Pdoc's.

Their approach is so much better than what I have seen in US, longer stays that are not dictated by insurance, anorexia is so often under-treated here because the HMO's limit the time even though it is one of the most deadly illnesses.

I'm surprised by how much the kids are allowed to keep with them, most of the places I've been in they take everything away and that really increases the feeling of being a bad person who deserves to die. I mean really they expect patients to write with tiny 2-3 inch pencils that can only be used for the day you have to turn them in at night. No pens, no paints, it's a jail where they drug you into a stupor. No interest in helping you cope, just a lot of restrictions and empty talk about controlling feelings with drugs. I fail to understand why they don't get it that what they are doing doesn't work. They say you have an illness but treat you like a criminal...at least in this state they do.

Don't know if the hospital featured in this series is typical of mental health care for teens in the U.K. but I know that here in the U.S.A. they don't take that same approach. If someone says they are hearing voices or seeing visions they are almost automatically labeled schizophrenic and medicated. I'm liking the way this hospital works.

It seems like the staff really care and are involved in the patients recovery, but do they ever go outside?! Get some physical activity? The only times I've seen are when they get passes to leave for the weekend/day.

Gill went out in the grounds, I think?

I thought this show was superb but it annoyed me when they told Beth: "So you admit it was stupid to SI." That's just shaming.

I found this show to be great. It really brought down stigma and showed that these teenagers, are, well, teenagers at the root of it all. And mental illness is not a shameful thing to be treated for.

I was in a similar unit when I was 17 for several months. We were treated like family. The therapies helped. Nothing was forced. You'd have to get to a point where you'd have to admit you need help, and they were always willing to give it. Without that place, I don't want to think how I would be right now.

There is a notice up that they have to take this down soon because of copyright issues so if you are outside the UK & interested in watching, do it soon. They represent DID, BP I & II, Social anxiety, Depression, and anorexia.

I was just going to post the same thing! I'm trying to watch it now before it's gone. It's such a shame that us Non-UK people can't access these television programs. Thanks to those of you who know about these shows and keep posting to let the rest of us know. I greatly appreciate it.

I just saw, and it's already been taken down. Too bad too since I'm sure I would be able to relate closely with much of it.
