**This is an offshoot of the thread "Have you ever brought your pet to T".

AS I was responding, I remembered that in either the first or second session, T asked me what my dog's name was...I told her....She verbalized it revealed a lot about me. Really?

It actually does not. I put a lot of thought into what the dog's name would be, registered and call name, but when I saw the puppy, everything changed.

It is not an odd name nor telling. I am starting to become very angry at T right now.

It's difficult for me to comment without knowing what the name is.

But I agree, a dog name by itself doesn't reveal very much. Perhaps your T really meant was that it was consistent with how she saw you.

I think Can'tExplain is right; it must fit with how T sees you. In that sense, her comment says more about T than it does about you. While I did name my current dog, when I was younger, I adopted a puppy who had already been given a name by her breeder. Her name was Quite unusal (something I'd never heard before). Over the years, I had a few people tell me that my name choice was revealing or that it fit with my personality. What a surprise for them when I said I was not the one who named her! Similarly, I named my best friend's dog-- and he's been told that "his" name choice was telling also. People read into these things what they want to. Even if you did carefully consider a name, I'm sure you and everyone else who has chosen that name (for a pet, child, business, etc) chose it for a different reason. If one more person tries to tell me that I named my current dog after Angelina Jolie (because her name is a character Jolie played in a popular film) I think I'll scream! I did not, and I'm not exactly a Jolie fan. My dog's name actually comes from a store I was driving by in Beverly Hills and thought "what a cute name for a dog."
Thanks for this!

My dog's name means something in another language that is part of my heritage...but I don't think it says much about me.

My cats have SERIOUSLY messed up names, lol (I mean, they are both cute but they give EVERYONE pause), that mean nothing other than I couldn't come up with anything so they basically "earned" their names. My other cat I deliberately named, as I did my past two...but these two had a whole different way of getting theirs. Your T would die if she knew mine. I really don't like your T...she needs some valium and a VERY long cruise.

I'm sorry- I don't think your t meant anything by I tho. Just an idea- but my t sometimes tries to hard to relate to me in some way- including making assumptions and observations that are totally off their mark. Maybe this was the case with your t?

She seems to jump to conclusions, a LOT, your T. I would be angry, too. Is she young and inexperienced?
Thanks for this!

HI-
I think we are the same age.

I did google her before I initially went to the first visit. She has been in this position since May. I do not know if she did one on one counseling before. She has a Master's in two different (but similar) things..I think the most recent allows her to do therapy, one on one.

I know I sound like a broken record, but she would probably be good for me in a year or 2...but not now.

What about dealing w/ the fact that I cannot work? That I am depressed? That I do not shower very frequently (disgusting, I know)?

God I hate showering, why is it so much work?

You should tell her straight out, or hand her a list, and say that these are the things that are REALLY causing you pain and discomfort and you need help with them NOW before you can move forward and do anything else she has planned for you.
Thanks for this!

One of my pets that has since passed was named by the pet store and I kept it. The other one that I still have was named in duo with the other one. So there isn't too much to read into my pets names.
Thanks for this!

Lost Key,

You have given me the BEST homework~ I will write the list and hand it to her next week.

I am not afraid of verbalizing this to her, it is just she INTERUPTS ME.
