"This article is the first in a series of articles on a principle I am afraid has gone missing from most psychological theories and techniques - Common Sense."

LOL!
Thanks for this!

I did laugh at that too. Sometimes therapists get so wrapped up in high-brow theory and whimsical pontification and forget to just use common sense and kindness. Sometimes that is all that is needed, not everything needs to be so complicated.

I did like parts of the article.

I did not agree with this statement:
"Simply, positive transference is when you like your therapist, and negative transference is when you don't."

That statement seemed at odds with another statement in the article, which I do agree with:
"Transference is feelings from your past interactions with others that you transfer into current relationships."

I do believe that a client can like a therapist without it being due to feelings for people from one's past. I don't think we need to turn everything into transference.

I dislike how any feelings relating to client and therapist are always described as transference but ilike the way she says that they are ok as long as they are not denied or labelled bad or not real as does this the client harm, I believe.
She did say that the transference and counter transference just are that, feelings. I think it is just a thing that therapist have a need to do and that is name everything and label it.
Thanks for this!
