I am kinda starting to see pdoc terminating as a sort of "new beginning". I mean maybe all this time everyone had the best intentions, in that they wanted me to get well, but in actuality, they were, to a large degree, unintentionally enabling me to stay "sick". I mean, until the contract, pdoc was all "u can quit me but i won't quit u" and everyone else seemed to have a similar attitude which leaves no room to desire change if everyone will always be there. I am not trying to say it is their fault that nothing happened. I'm just saying that while they tried to help they actually enabled no action on my part up until the contract. If that makes sense.

I am not sure I understand all you are saying, but it sounds very positive. Like maybe it is a turning point for you. And if the contracts had not been put in place, you would have continued to drift along doing the same old same old? Is that right?

Are you going to see another pdoc, get medications from your regular doctor, or are you going to go meds-free?

I work with mental health clients at my job and there are a few who don't seem to know why they are coming to see me or say that they gain anything, and are not using me for the services I am supposed to provide to clients. Based on what you wrote, Melissa, I'm wondering if a contract might be helpful for those clients and might help them take action (either with me or elsewhere in their lives).

I'm not quite sure I was clear enough in the original post. So, I will attempt to clarify in a summary form. What I was trying to say is:

Through the contract and my inability/unwillingness to hold up my end of the deal I was better able to take notice of the problematic thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

Sunrise I think the contract can be helpful in certain situations but I think one should be very selcetive in its use. I know for me looking back I should have been more vocal about what I didn't understand. I don't know the details of your position but maybe you could talk to those clients and tell them more about your purpose in their seeing you, ask them if they have any questions. I know for me I tried to get my T to tell me the problems as she saw them but she continually refused. I can't say for sure that if she had pointed out my problems as she saw them that it would have helped but that too might be helpful. Then again they could just minimize the problems you point out.
