I played Bar Trivia with a friend of mine tonight and thanks to my extensive knowledge of the Time Person of the Year (which we got a ton of bonus points on) we won easily.
Thanks for this!

I was listening to the Metallica CD's that I borrowed from my ex. Every once in a while, I'll get the urge to listen to a specific band that I used to love - which ranged from Duran Duran, Tears for Fears and Depeche Mode....all the way to Kingdom Come, Metallica and Suicidal Tendencies.

This time, it's Metallica.

Makes me want to "really" learn how to play a guitar. When I was a sound tech, the lead guitarist for one of my bands was teaching me how to play. I didn't learn much. I wonder if I'll ever get up the courage to get lessons.

(5.5 hours down, 6.5 hours to go....)

I took a several month break from PC last year for this very reason (and I'm about on the verge of taking another break). Seems to be a lot of enabling around here at times, particularly by certain posters, and it just grates on my nerves to the point that I just have to walk away. It helped to get away for a few months, and I think I'm about ready for another PC vacation. It's just good self-care to do so for me.

Have the mods been hassling you?

The ex successfully filled out the forms and is dropping them off now. Hope he put in the application for the house he was keen on. I found 2 places, one was the Hobbit house and the other a quaint duplex. I don't want to put an application in for the Hobbit house as its quite near where my T lives. But it is cute and lawn maintenance is included. Also I don't think it would be good for me to live so close to T.

Glad your ex filled out the forms and is dropping them off. One less thing to deal with!

Hi, Couch

I hope it's okay to drop my two cents in between the couch cushions. Just wanted to respond to MKAC & Chris and say that many of the things you've mentioned are also reasons that I choose to (mostly) lurk. It doesn't take long for me to get burned out from posting and I rarely have anything new to add (And, I ramble - like now)

I really do value the balance that both of you (and other tell-it-like-it-is PC members) bring to the list. I often seek out those responses in particular.

Of course, voicing the unpopular opinion can mean a backlash of hostility. At best, it is a thankless task. I like to think that the sense and practicality of those contributions gives them enough substance to endure in the minds of PCers long after the chaos of any emotional drama has died down. So, even if someone wasn't willing or ready to hear what you had to say in that moment, perhaps it will be useful another time.

Thanks for your many contributions.

Go for it! There are so many different ways to learn these days. With a little digging and some trial and error, you can usually find a good fit. Books, videos, meet-ups, online with skype, school & community programs...
Sort of like T options.
(Sorry, as a music teacher, I'm honor bound to put in a plug )

Nicely stated, Polaris.

I nodded my head eagerly when I read, "I often seek out those responses in particular". There are posters that I gravitate to, knowing that I may find value in the feedback....and others that I take with a grain of salt (or prepare myself for).

LOL, I think I'm still resentful when it comes to playing the guitar. I bought a VHS tape (yes, back in the day) of "How to Play the Guitar Overnight"....I checked the next day - They LIED.

The last time I got the urge, I went as far as contacting a guy who gave lessons. I then realized how I couldn't possibly have the courage.

Then, my niece's boyfriend broke all the strings on my guitar...and I didn't bother buying new strings - or figuring out how to put them on.

Maybe...just maybe....

Edited to Add: When I first started dabbling in so-called playing guitar, I learned (not accurately, just winged it) to play parts of Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" and the Eagles "Victim of Love"....I wouldn't be able to do it now, though. Ah, the good old days.

8.25 hours down...3.75 hours to go....

Updated: 9.75 hours down....2.25 hours to go....These last two hours can either drag or lead me to the home stretch. Come on, second wind! Or is it third wind or fourth wind by now?

Updated again: 10.5 hours down....1.5 hours to go. My eyes are starting to feel so heavy, I can barely kep my eyes open. I was just listening to some heavy tunes, yet my eyes still want to close and drift off to la la land. Maybe I'll take a walk to the bathroom or get a fresh cup of ice....

Updated yet again: 11 hours down....1 hour to go.

AAARGH!!!

I just tracked some packages online - and it looks like my daughter's "big gift" from me this year (her very first cell phone) has been sitting in my mailbox in the freezing cold for the last 15 hours.

I hope it doesn't ruin it.

I guess the good news is that in an hour I will be leaving work, so I'll be able to get to the package out of the cold in less than 2 hours. *sigh*

My latest joke to my daughter....

Me: Knock knock!
D: Who's there?
Me: I eat mop.
D: I eat mop who?
Me: Eww, you eat your poo??? YUCK!

So, it seems that delirium sets in about now....

I very much doubt that the phone will be ruined, mu_e. Apple claims that iphones should not be used in temperatures below freezing (0°C / 32°F) but that's complete nonsense - I use mine outside all the time in winter. People were outside, tweeting and Facebooking like crazy on their phones, in the -40°C (which is also -40°F!) temperatures we had way up north the other day. And when I google on what happens with cell phones in cold weather, it seems like the worst that's likely to happen is that the display gets sluggish until the phone is brought indoors again.
Thanks for this!

Good morning.

I'm off today. Of course I didn't find that out until last night. Too much time on my hands today and no money to go out and do anything.

Morning couch.

I hope everyone is doing well. I slept well last night, which is probably a good thing after what happened yesterday. I haven't slept well in a while. Lately, I've been waking up still tired, but this morning I am not. 2 more days till the weekend. Then a week till winter vacation. It can't come soon enough.

Hugs to everyone who is struggligng. A friendly hello to everyone else.

I need to go pack my lunch, so I can leave for work in about 10 minutes. I hope everyone has a good day/afternoon/evening/night/whatever works for you.

Yup! Can't go wrong. Now if they just wouldn't charge those darn $4.00 fees for the visa/MasterCard/American express ones. The ones to specific stores don't have the fee.
