I just changed the curtains in the kitchen - for some reason, having Christmas curtains makes me feel more like a grownup than many other grownup things I do. And I have hung some decorations in the living room window: the thimble-sized Moomintroll mugs that I got from my niece for Christmas last year, and the enamel star that my paternal grandfather got for Christmas when he was a child, in the 1880s.

wikid, perfectionism is a curse. I don't have a perfectionist streak when it comes to perfect decorations, perfectly wrapped gifts and all that, but I do have it in other areas, so I understand. It sucks when it removes the enjoyment from something that could be enjoyable otherwise.

Red Panda, I'm sorry. We probably won't have a tree this year for the same reason we didn't have one last year - our two cats are hunters and climbers and I bet they would climb the tree and hunt the decorations. That's why I'm hanging decorations in the windows instead, too high for the cats to notice, and definitely too high for them to reach. It's not the same as a tree, though.

RTS, I hadn't heard about angel trees before but there's a lot of info on the web - what a wonderful tradition. It made me quite happy to find out about it.

Good morning.. A good amount of ice on the roads, sidewalks and windows this morning.. but thankfully we still have our power, and there is no travel ban in effect... We are still supposed to get more ice tonight, we will see what happens with that.

but for now, my sweat pants are one, my slippers are on, and I have nice big mug of hot coffee to help me start my Christmas vacation... This is a good way to pretend that I am not depressed.

I shared one of my Christmas gifts from a teacher I work with, with students yesterday.

He had his wife make me a plate of cookies. They were half snickerdoodles and half peanut butter. I gave the kids the peanut butter ones (I will eat the snickerdoodles). The teacher saw me giving them to the kids and said, "You don't like peanut butter cookies?" I explained I was allergic to peanuts, so I couldn't eat them. He apologized saying he didn't know. I told him it was okay because it's the thought that counts. And hey, the kids were happy to get a snack.

ETA: Most of the kids seemed to enjoy them. One kid, however, asked the teacher who the h e l l made them becaue they tasted like s h i t. Darling EBD kids speaking whatever comes to their mind.

Granite...$3.50 is way too cheap for a homemade card. I buy photo cards for like $5, and they aren't as nice. Think about it.

Alas, my last born child spent the night and she LOVES to wrap. Hip hip hooray, I am saved. Now I just have to wrap her gifts.

Didn't see an answer to this CE. It is more about imperialism, IIRC, An ivory trader in the remote areas of the Congo.

I've been having computer issues, but it is working fine this AM.

I HATE packing. I'm really anxious about the amount of stuff I have, what if they look at it and decide I have too much stuff and that I can't bring all of it to the home? Stupid irrational fears, OCD not today. Then I hate myself cause I feel like i'm being lazy but I've been packing for two hours and I don't want to do anymore til tomorrow. I have so much cleaning to do tomorrow.

I wish you could just teleport.

Agreed - you can buy a fancy regular card for 5 bucks. These are waaaaaaay beyond that. Whats your hourlywage? The rent on your craft room? What do similar cards sell for online or at other stores? This is a unique item. Dont worry (too much!) about the stores markup. Plus This is almost more of a gift than a card.

So wiki get out the karaoke machine and rap while she's wrapping! Or at least break dance - thsts what the was supposed to be...

I want to stay in bed all day and read James Burke's newest Robicheaux novel. Too much **** to do for that.

I just wrapped H's presents, and used sealing wax to seal them. I haven't done that for years and years.... I love that smell. I've been meaning to break out the wax and the candles every year, it's so much part of Christmas for me, but I just haven't got round to it.

I have to say, I think I really am doing better, mentally. This Christmas feels lighter than last year's, and the one before, and certainly the one before that, which was terrible in a way I can't go into without a trigger warning. I wonder if it's the medication, or the therapy, or both. I shan't look gift lightness of mind in the mouth, though.

Sorry. I hope I'm not coming across as walking all over the couch with my Nordic cheerfulness, when it's a really dificult time for lots of people. I just wanted to share this, because it feels significant.

Granite, that's lovely! If I had a valentine, I'd want to give it to him. And I'd pay more than $5 for it, for sure.

Mast, it's delightful to hear you cheerful!

I'm closing in on being ready for my family to arrive. Just some cleaning.

I survived the flight. There was quite a lot of turbulence and it really scared me but I survived. Neutrino vs airplane: 1-0.

Sorry....I just can't let this slide. THIS is not okay healed. It is not okay at all, ever. I know you know that, and I hate to kick you when you're down, but you need to do something drastic here. If it's the hospital, or a separate living situation or whatever....do something. Don't let this kid pay for the horrible things that were done to you...please.
