I told my t how I felt, after making a fool of myself and sobbing, she was also so sad, she told me I was an awesome client and that, the therapist she picked for me is lucky to have me as her client.

She told me the therapist name and described her physically , she said she is a great fit for me , and would like me to give her a chance.

She explained to me as follows the breakdown of the new therapist transfer process:

1. Next week: At my t office with my t present, the new t will be there for the whole session, my t will introduce me and explain that I have trust issues, trouble opening up, and introduce the treatment plan, and put her up to speed on what what we have been working on. She will meet with her today privately though, t stuff I guess.

Then my t says the new t will ask me a couple of get to know me questions , (shutdown mode).

Following week: my t and I will go to new t office, and have the next to final session there with this new t ( new office im panicking)

Final session: my t , new t in new t office for 25 min then my t and myself back to old office for closure session.

I gave my t a card, she got teary eyed, my emotions and my anxiety are really bad, she says I can call whenever. She is moving 80 miles away so its a huge change for her as well.

Way to go Sweepy! You did it! You will be just fine these next few sessions. A little emotional...yes...but that is to be expected! Good job!

Sounds like your T is really working to make this transition go as smoothly as possible. What she and the new T are doing is beyond what most T's do in this situation. It will still be very painful, but at least she isn't leaving you in the dirt. I'm glad today went so well for you. That's great to hear.

Really? I thought all therapists do this. She just called me to see how I was doing.

It would be ideal if all therapists did that, but no, they don't. She seems on the more careful end of the spectrum, and the phone call and hug show a lot of caring: those are definitely not requirements of the job.

Kudos to you for showing up for the appointment and working through a very hard time. It will get better.
Thanks for this!

Sweepy, anxiety is natural when entering into a new situation. Remember she has been an important person in your life and not only is she leaving but you are having to start again with someone new. That would leave anyone feeling anxious, at least it would me. Unfortunately the hurt isn't going to go away over night but with time and tears you will get through this with less and less pain nagging at you.

I wish you well on your endeavor with your new therapist. I hope it all goes fairly well. I really hope the best for you in this situation. I know you can do it!

I didn't post anything but I've been following and thinking of you. What you are going through is also a huge fear of mine. I'm relieved after reading your update. You certainly don't feel much relieved or relaxed but, no, T's don't usually do these things.
This tells me that your T really cares about you and she's invested in leaving you safe and the new T seems very committed and willing to continue to take good care of you. Since you have to go throught this huge change, I'd say this can only be a good beginning.. seems like this new T is worth a chance.

And it's just great that you will still be able to call your T instead of just cutting off contact. Hope that being aware of this possibility will give you some comfort.

I am glad you decided to go. I got teary eyed when reading about how the sessions will go. I can't imagine doing what you are having to do. The T I loved dearly terminated me unexpectedly and it hurt. I can't imagine going through this knowing when the end is. Hugs to you

I can only call her while she is here. She did tell me where she was relocating to and the type of work she will do.

Is a catch-up session a few months down the road with your old T a possibility?
