I scared myself in the mirror just now- I don't recognise the grey lady looking at me!and the tired, sad eyes! I've had a horrible evening. So sad. Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Gah! Now I'm perseverating that if I do find a job I like, my boss will hold me to the three months notice and kill the deal.

Gah is right! 3 months notice?! That doesnt sound legal, let alone enforceable. Thats like serfdom. I dont think you can sign away your rights. They had a thing in our city where the substitute teachers signed away their right to be hired if they worked more than x days. The courts later decided they had to hire them or pay them. I know thats here, not yurtville, but still.

Eta - cuz they cant effectively stop you from earning a living.

Ce- that does sound extreme. How can they enforce it?
Here it is often suggested that an employee give 2 weeks notice or a month - but the employee is not forced to remain if they try to just leave.
Yurtlandia sounds tough.

Thanks for that. W has persuaded me to leave that question for later.

If I get a job offer and if I want it, I shall go to my boss and ask him to release me from my contract. Does he really want me sulking and pissing people off for three months? I doubt it. But if he does, that will be the time to seek legal advice. What I've read says that in principle the contract would be binding but the courts never enforce it.

In Know Your Law, Grenville Janner writes:

Quote:
The normal rule in business contracts is: they bind both sides or neither. If a deal is binding on you, then it will be binding on the other party - otherwise, not at all. Theoretically, contracts of employment are the same. But while an employer who breaks the rules may be in trouble, an employee [...] normally escapes scot-free.

As an employer, it is vital that you should recognize your powerlessness, if only so that you do not waste time and money on consulting lawyers or instituting proceedings which will be useless.
Janner is talking about English law, but I'm pretty sure that the law given by tribal elders in our yurts (or from horseback on the steppes) will be the same.

The case turns on this: my boss would have to prove an actual loss that he would not have incurred if I had worked out my notice. Which is impossible.

I hope you do get the job, CE (provided that you want it once you've interviewed), and that you don't have to fight to get less then three months' notice.
Thanks for this!

Hey all...

Mast..Happy Birthday to your niece! Coconut bacon is a vegan alternative to bacon. It's salty, smoky, sweet and almost the right texture. You take large flaked coconut (little flakes won't work right) coat it in liquid smoke, soy sauce and maple syrup, bake it till it's crunchy. It's great on salads or sandwiches...there's not much fat in it. Yummy...even my carnivores like it!

SD...I am really anxious to know how the JD works. Keep us informed please.

CE - I hope you get the new job and your boss lets you off easily. You deserve it.

I am doing triage hours at the wildlife clinic today, so I am off.

BTW - my mirror sux, big time. I avoid it like the plaque...the beady eyed monster in there wants to suck me in.

Hi everyone... I have been reading but not posting...

CE, I hope it works out on the job front.

Wiki, I love the sound of coconut bacon, but do they call it bacon? Why not just call it smokey soy-baked coconut

SD, I hope the new tincture works for you )( [=un-hug]

Hey Mast, have a nice day! Is 20 a 'big' birthday in Sweden? I'm not sure about France but in Switzerland (to which I am adjacent) 20 is the age of majority.
Thanks for this!

I slept through the night without the pain waking me up. Right now the tincture is not just jdogwood because my bark has not come in and I am using the closest tincture I could find.

Yes! They give you a crossbow and send you up into the mountains to shoot apples.

Did you hurt yourself with the flying squirrel suit?

I have lost a few bouts with gravity in the past few years and finally the weather felled me this january - I probably have an injured disk of some sort.
Squirrel suits, flame throwers and jet packs are not to blame.

No, it's not all that significant. 18 is the age of majority, when you get to vote, drive a car, and drink in pubs. At 20 you are allowed to buy alcohol at the off-licence, which is a big thing for some 20-year-olds. My niece has lived in London since last summer, though, so for her that's not particularly relevant at the moment. But 20 is still a nice round number, she's no longer a teen. And I feel very old
Thanks for this!

That's good. It's an incredible feeling to wake up and realise you've slept a whole night without waking up in pain.

I just realised something today that I would have posted to the "Celebrating success" thread, except I know this is something that would not be universally considered to be a success, and I don't want to seem provocative: Since before Christmas, I have only had one single RL conversation about something of a personal/emotional nature, outside my therapy sessions. That's a huge step forward for me - I am finding it so much easier to keep my walls in place, even with my closest friends.

Interesting. Because I've been trying to build up my support network and I found that I got better results when I revealed more.

I've just done an online assessment for my forthcoming job interview. I bluffed my way through to score in the upper half of "proficient", but not "strong". That's hardly surprising given that most of the questions were about stuff I'd never seen before. I'm just good at multiple-choice tests.

It only tests knowledge of the language, not the ability to program. It would be like applying for a job in comparative literature and being asked the past tense of "think".

I find it really hard to talk about feelings to anyone. Its what contributed to my marriage break down i think.
I hope everyone is reasonably well. I am struggling ith taking my meds, my weight, my T.
After 3 years on meds with very little weight gain I have suddenly ballooned and have only one pair of jeans and pants that fit me. I try to exercise daily but that just seems to maintain the weight and I eat relatively healthily. Wishing I had never met my T at the moment.

Has anyone heard from Squirrel or MUE? or Healed?
