So you may all have read my thread about me going to a new t( which I don't particularly like).
Lately I have been wanting to quit therapy altogether but that is not an option. I really don't want to commit to either t and am really noticing some resistance in relation to therapists and I have been let down by ts before and I think it is starting to affect my relationships with them now. I really am considering just quitting for now or seeing another one but really, is it that hard to see a good t, I am begging to think it's impossible or it could just be me ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think running is a sign that therapy is tapping into something important. Maybe Gestalt therapy isn't right for you, but you know for a fact your problems aren't resolved. I would say to continue looking for a therapist whose personality and techniques work for you.

Maybe gestalt is working and this is why I am wanting to run because she is going deeper than any other t in only two sessions.
Yes, I do know my problems aren't resolved but they have lessened. Thanks hazel girl Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you are not getting enough out of therapy, do not like your T's for any reason (because or them, you, whatever), I do not think spending time and money in therapy is a good idea? Therapy is a choice of tasks, like going to college or taking a particular job, marrying a particular person, etc. and it can really only work well if you want to take on that task. Otherwise you are likely to drop out and then blame yourself like there is something "wrong" with yourself or the other when it is just that it is not a good fit, not something you want enough at the time to commit to. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to do therapy!
There is nothing wrong with "running" either. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and learning to strengthen weaknesses and help strengths stay strong and limber (rather than rigid) can take time and if we only have sticks to fight with while the other guy has knives, running is a good skill to have at the moment ![]() Therapy is good experience. But it is not the only school in which to learn that experience.

Thanks for your reply Perna!
For a long time now I have been blaming myself because it hasn't been working and forgetting I have a choice to go. I have wasted so much time and money when it clearly wasn't working in some areas... It hasn't been all bad but not what I needed. I always for get I have a choice. can you picture what you actually would like to have happen in a therapy session ... what you are wanting from a T, and see if that helps in finding a direction ...
or does what you want keep changing ![]() |

It's rather difficult in the first few sessions to know if a t is right for you. I would say you are simply figuring this out. And I imagine you will take away additional information on what sort of personality works for you or not. That can only help evaluate the next person.
