Yes, I asked them and I am going to see another one on Thursday! She is psychodynamic so hopefully we can work through this transference. She explained a bit about it on the phone and I told her what happened with my other ts and she was horrified.

Just shows how Facebook and Therapy don't mix well!! I'm amazed at how many therapists have fully open/public facebook pages! I would never go to one of them.

Yes, it's scary how inappropriate their boundaries are.

Maybe subconsciously I choose her but in saying that, she wasn't even listed as gestalt do maybe it was meant to be! When she said she was gestalt I wanted to run out the door.

MLS, an extremely smart friend accidentally found herself in Gestalt therapy. She had no idea her therapist practiced it until her therapist laid into her, did a huge amount of damage and she researched more about the women's background. She never would have consented to Gestalt therapy and felt utterly blindsided. Gestalt's founder, Fritz Perls was connected with Esalen, the 1960s encounter-group in-your-face stuff.

If a client knowingly chooses a confrontational approach that's one thing. But to have it sprung on them without informed consent is something else.

I hope you don't fault yourself, subconsciously or otherwise for unknowingly signing up for this modality. My (very very smart) friend felt quite ambushed.
In my opinion, it's a therapist's responsibility to tell you what modality she's using and to make sure the client understands it.

Therapy critic Jeffrey Masson's book has an extension discussion of Perls' ethics, including his megalomaniacal boasts and sexual involvement with clients.

Hope you find what works for you.

This is great Mona. I hope this T works out. It's good to try out a few before settling in with one. Gestalt T is probably a fine T but really doesn't seem like a good fit for you. When it is right you don't need to convince yourself of anything. Jmo, but I think you'll know when you've hit therapy gold.

I never liked gestalt, not since we watched the three clips on YouTube within Gloria and the three different ts- rogers, Ellis and Perls.
Perls was an absolute pig, he treated her awful and antagonised her and degraded her. I heard after the interview Gloria went to shake his hand and he stubbed his cigar in it. He is an animal and perhaps this is why I have so much residence towards this therapy.

I should really have asked her before going to her but on her web site it just says humanistic integrative! But she is pure gestalt and trained at the only gestalt school in the country
