My therapist takes notes, and I am glad that she does. I have so much to spill out, I'm sure it's not easy for her to remember it all. I think it's good because then I won't have to repeat myself as often.

T does not keep any notes at all now, altough i know she keeps all my emails. She kept a few notes at first, years ago,but then stopped. We just talked about this the other day.

For the first few sessions, he did. It didn't bother me. Now it depends on what I say, if he needs to remember exactly the words I used. But I know he does after and that's a good thing I guess.

My T writes notes during and after each session. He's old as dirt, so I don't expect him to remember everything.

My T writes notes during our sessions. I think it's important because then she remembers the things I say and I don't have to repeat them. We had a situation a few weeks ago where she'd forgotten a really traumatic thing I'd told her and I really wasn't comfortable telling that story again, and I was really glad she could just go review her notes from that session so I wouldn't have to say the same thing twice.

I was not sure how to vote because the thread specified in session notes while the question just asks about notes in general. My therapist takes notes after each session but only very occasionally writes anything down during session. He shares his notes with me from time to time. They are not terribly interesting, just very general comments about my mood and general references to what we discussed with no detail.
So yes, he takes notes after each and evry session, but only very occasionally during session. Doesn't bother me at all when he does by the way. |

Mine takes notes after session, but I wish she did during. It bothers me when she forgets things. That being said maybe the things she does remember means more.

T doesn't take notes in therapy, I guess he does it after, I've never asked. He remembers most things, with occasional times I feel like he's forgotten something or gets a detail wrong. If that ever bothers me, I'll bring it up.

yes but they are very minor notes. She has a sheet of paper that she jot short things down. Like if med changes are made, specific things happen etc but just one or two words. She has them so that if she needs to send info insurance company etc she has a trigger to remember what was discussed that are out of the ordinary. It doesn't effect the session as she is quick about it.

My T always takes notes during session. I love it. It makes me feel like she's really listening and that there might be important stuff she's taking notice of. It does not distract me in the least.

I think pretty much every T I have had took notes. One I had would use little yellow stickie notes.
My previous T took notes, and at the last session I found out she printed out EVERY email I'd sent her and put it in my file. Yikes!! My current T takes notes in each session, but they don't interfere with things. She keeps a notebook/tablet just with my session notes - because she will refer back to things sometimes by flipping back. Sometimes I think about asking to see her notes. This T is really cool though because she told me if I wanted to request records from my previous psychiatrists and hospitalizations, I could have them sent to her office and she would go over them with me. |
