I see my T tomorrow, third time.

I hope they focus on my issues and NOT trying to take my mind off of them and focus on something else!!!!!! If this was what I wanted, I would go get drunk or high (which I do not do) but you get my point!

I detest and loathe how a T will say, "Yes your new car burnt up, but you have the CD from the player, which was saved...minus some smoke damage...focus on that positive." Yeah..........right!!!!!!!!!!

This is just an example, as I have NO self esteem, depression, and anxiety and they ask me to appreciate birds singing, and the Spring weather????? MY mind is so clouded, I do not even at all appreciate living.

Most T's won't respond like that. I am sorry if that has been your experience.

I would expect a lot more from your therapist, they're there as an ally, to empathize and help you: you can find plenty of people to tell you to focus on the silver lining for free.
Thanks for this!

I'v never really had my T ask me to find the silver lining in thing. Yes, sometimes we talk about how something can be both a positive and a negative, but I'm usually the one that starts such a conversation. My T rarely suggests just thinking of other things. Perhaps, if your T starts in with such an approach, you can tell them that you don't really find that helpful and you would like to focus on your specific issues and find ways to cope with them.

You have to communicate that to your therapist. I have no self esteem, depression and anxiety. When I first started therapy I would blank out and ramble on about my week. Then later on I would reflect that, that is not at all what I needed to work on. So, I got into the habit of writing it down before therapy to keep myself on track.

i hope your T is able to be more help than just focusing on any possible positives in a situation; I wouldn't like that either

That's terrible if that is how your T operates! I'm sorry if this has been your only experience with Therapists...I would suggest looking around for a new one if this doesn't feel like a good fit for your needs. I would be incredibly annoyed if my T did this.
