Hey all. I was just wondering what is considered a "crisis." Any opinions, information, etc. would be appreciated.

For me it would be all of my coping strategies starting to fail and being at risk of significant harm.

Hope you are Ok.

A crisis for me is when I am constantly thinking of suicide and have the means to act on this and intend to act on it. It's when I know I can't keep myself safe.
Thanks for this!

When all self-soothing and coping skills that usually work have failed and you need help grounding, finding a solution, or you fear for your life/safety.

Personally, my "crisis-mode" consists of situations I know will hinder my healing progress drastically or even cause me to regress if I do not deal with it ASAP.

Are you okay?

I think it kinda depends on the person -

For me, it's one of three things:
1. Escalating anxiety to the point that I can't calm down on my own and meds aren't working quick enough. Basically, reaching a state of almost constant panic
2. Strong urges to injure myself in some way that I'm struggling not to act on
3. Suicidal urges

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the answers. I'm feeling this way now, wanting to self injure, not really caring about stopping it.

Just overall feeling miserable.

Yogix, hang in there and stay well. I'm doing terribly at the moment, too. I really appreciated this post. Everyone's answers really spoke to my condition, which made me feel less alone in my crisis. Hope that's true for you, too.

Yogix, I hope you are doing better today...

Could be a bit TRIGGERing due to mentioning SUI, SI & OD

Thread about keeping tabs by T directed me to this thread as I've realized that usually Ts reach out clients outside the session when they think that a client might be in danger or in a crisis... And I think I am still not sure when T might think that a client is in a crisis - does crisis = SUI attempt? Because I have felt few times that I was in a crisis but I would never make one step too far... And for this reason non of my Ts has ever suggested any medication (and my previous T is also a pdoc) or anything different than normal sessions... That's why I do not understand what a crisis means for Ts... Or even what are the circumstances that they would suggest some medication... In my case it is like that that if my life is not in a direct danger - it's not a crisis for Ts... It did happen that I SI or OD (but never got hospitalized) bit my lips to bleed due to the constant panic, didn't get up or drink anything for a day or two etc. and my Ts knew about it but I guess it was still not a crisis as nothing has changed in my "treatment"... Hmmm, I guess it's a bit confusing for me... Is it common?

Self injury to me would not be a crisis. Having a suicidal plan and being about to act on it would be a crisis.

According to my therapist, I have been in a state of crisis for the last few months. Which I think is stretching it, but with the number of times I've tried to od and cut for SH reasons I understand why they think that way.
