Hi

I am currently seeing a therapist via my college and get 12 sessions. We are 8 sessions in and only just starting to deal with deep issues. I'm getting anxious because she keeps saying things like if I need more counselling she can refer me on etc. It's taken me ages to open up to her and discuss deeply personal stuff and I know I need more sessions. I will ask her if I can continue with her but I don't think it's going to be possible.

Has anyone got any tips for moving therapists when in the midst of therapy? I don't deal with change well at the best of time

I admit it is hard to change therapist when you have already developed a relationship with the first one. I've found if you get a good one it's not as hard as you think because once you have talked about issues the easier it is to explain them to a new therapist. And if you don't like the first one you pick there is nothing wrong with changing again. You need to find someone you fit with.

Hi BrokenGirl22. I don't have experience with changing T's in the midst of therapy, but I just wanted to say that I'm sorry you have to deal with this. College counseling is so tough for that reason. It's really hard to open up to people, and 12 sessions is really not enough in my opinion to solve anything but short-term issues. But you opened up once, and that means there is hope for you to be able to do it again with a more long-term T.

Thanks. I really struggle with opening up and it takes me ages. I was lucky to click with this T within a few sessions and it fills me with dread at having to go through it all again.
