My T is very open about her responses to things, so I think she would tell me if something was really upsetting to her, unless she didn't think I could handle her telling me.

What your T means is that he can choose how he responds to things, and he chose to allow himself to feel upset on your behalf.

I feel like I upset him by what I said, so it was my doing... even though I know that's not quite right.
