Following on from the thread about the strangest thing in your T's office, and the craziest thing s/he has said to you, I wondered: what is the strangest or funniest thing you know about your T? Either that they've told you or that you've noticed about them. In some cases it might not be something to share publicly, but I thought it might be fun to ask.

My T told me today that his favourite colour is taupe. Which is basically the colour of mushrooms. It's like beige gone wrong. Weird man...

Hmm. Not really odd, just interesting:

He's a black belt in some sort of martial art (couldn't begin to tell you which).

He has a serious phobia of snakes. SERIOUS phobia.

Oh! I have one!

My T (whom you all know is extremely empathetic and practically amazing) used to be NPD. She went to therapy for more than 10 years for it and other things, and is now most definitely not. People say NPD can't be helped, but the problem is most NPD's don't want to be helped, not that they can't be. She has written a book about her experiences of being NPD, and how she was able to heal, and what others can do if they or someone they know has NPD. It's very interesting.

Hmm, Nothing odd or weird except maybe that she likes my stupid swirly doodles. I think that's the oddest thing about her.
Thanks for this!

hmmmmm...

whatever might be weird is probably personal for him, so don't want to post...
I think the oddest thing for ME about HIM...is that he is soooo very patient and willing to come so far to meet me where I am...translates the world for me....can be so very "righteous" and still care about me...

That he is full of love and not hate and can put other's needs above his own...or while balancing his own...
I just have NEVER met another man that is like him. I guess that is why I don't like the term transference used for my good feelings about him....my transference of my expecting to be yelled at or hit or left because I'm not good enough...that would be the transference. But I do NOT see him as any other male I have ever met...

I guess that is what is so weird for me or sometimes I think a lot about. How could he love me? That's just bizarre because he knows more about me than any one else on the planet.

He's a wonderful mystery and can even lend me hope when mine is totally gone.

LOL this made me laugh. But I agree "taupe?" It's a bit of a non colour....

I know right?! I never expected anyone to list that as a favourite. Not when there are so many nice colours in the world...

I have one other odd thing that's too personal to share or rather it would totally identify my T to anyone who knew him. His favourite sandwich is an insanely weird combination of foods that should never be eaten together.
Thanks for this!

I definitely know something I didn't want to know about T: once while chit chatting she told me the effects of menopause on her period.... definitely TMI! I'm sure I became beet red and wanted to crawl in a little hole!

Sometimes I wonder if she did it on purpose to see how my CSA as affected my ability to talk about such things.

I don't think there is anything much odder than wanting to be/becoming a therapist.

When she was in college, she owned and rode a motorcycle. I think that's the "oddest" thing I know about her, although, in and of itself, it is not odd to own or ride a motorcycle. I just couldn't picture her riding one.

I know practically nothing about my T. It used to hurt but I am learning to accept it's better this way.

Mine has apparently "done every drug under the sun." I don't think he was ever seriously addicted, but he's able to have empathy with other drug users/clients, especially Heroin. He understands how hard it is for them, because he said, it "felt so wonderful," to be on it.

I know he was drafted and served in the army for many, many years during the Vietnam war era. He had some depressing stories to tell about all that.

Oh, and also apparently he used to work with Jerry Seinfeld in the 80s as a stand-up comedian. Obviously his career didn't shoot off, but they were good friends. And he was in a semi-popular band in the late 60s and early 70s, playing lead guitar and vocals. Supposedly, also he had gotten his degree in advertising, and didn't start the process on becoming a T until his late 50s.

Ummm oh yeah. Apparently he lived in an orphanage until he was 5 years old, and then was adopted. So the first few years of his life, he said, were pretty miserable.

And then there's also some things I know, cause I googled him. He's really into burlesque and goth girls. Like, REALLY into it. Him and his girlfriend go to strange events/fetish balls around town. I don't judge, I just think it's...interesting.

I don't want to "give it away," but my T had a very unusual upbringing. She's not talked about it.... but, well, it's out there. I have certainly seen that there are many T's out there who went through tough things in their own lives, and made them decide to move from one end of the couch to the other. From patient to T. I find it fascinating!

With an old Group Therapist of mine I knew she had a Sun and Moon tattoo on her wrist (which she usually covered up by her watch).

She is a big fan of both Elvis and Eminem, seems like an odd musical combination.
