Slate had this.

Mark Gerald photographs psychoanalysts in his series, ?In The Shadow of Freud?s Couch.?

Read the comments on slate - very funny. I agree - most of them are too strange for me. Two of the men especially would really freak me out if I walked into their office.

Scary?

They're not too weird...or maybe my T is weird and so I don't notice.

OMG--ego personified! Martin Bergmann's (4th from the end) is the only office I could stand to be in; looking out that big window would be lovely.

Main T's office is most like phil lippman's ---cluttered, bookish, etc.

The others look crazy--It would encourage me to keep my eyes closed!!!!

Most of these look so cluttered and busy- I don't think I'd want to have therapy in offices like theirs. My Ts have had simple offices with neutral colors and that weren't too empty or too chaotic and cluttered.

Virtually having a panic attack just looking at those offices. There is not one of those T's I'd ever trust, they all look madder than me and that's not a good sign hahahaha

I hate clutter, and some had beds in them, that would freak me out, anyway they look too closed in, too loud and busy for my taste. I would not be comfortable in any of the ones I saw, or even the therapists in them.

... the quickest way to induce a migraine or psychotic episode. Dear lord, that first one; I wonder how many patients run for the hills after their first session with Anni? Reminds me of my grandmother's house, which is not a good thing *shudders*.

The only thing I found especially creepy in the first one was the dolls. It was the men themselves who freaked me out, especially the pompous ones and the mountain man guy.
The women all looked okay to me except the one with the dog. And her office seemed okay, she just looked odd. And I cannot imagine lying down near any of them.

There is WAY to much going on in most of them...although, they would be great for finding something else rather than looking at T..not very relaxing though.

I thought the beds were weird too. Does anybody lie down for therapy these days?

I think I've been to a worse one though. I went for an initial session with a T before I found one I liked; the room was in a doctors surgery and it was more like a cupboard. It was completely empty save for two uncomfortable chairs and a fire escape poster on the wall, and he said it was cold so he put on a heater and I sweated my way through the session. He was strange and kept telling his own stupid stories. Suffice to say I didn't go back!
Thanks for this!

Agreed, the men folk are a bit creepy/pompous, especially Bob 'Freud's no. 1 fan' Weinstein. I like the look of Phillip though, perhaps because he looks a bit like my T, perhaps because he looks a bit batty. The women did not look ok to me, so glad I see a male therapist.

This is why a lot of therapists don't publish their picture on the internet, faces and expressions can evoke all kinds of feelings. My friend once chose a T based on her website picture... spitting image of her mother but she hadn't realised.
Thanks for this!

No way on earth i would lie down in any of those rooms.

I don't even want to lie down in my T's office.

I guess I'm odd because I quite like all of those offices! (minus the bed...that's odd). I have some issues with sensory overload, so being in some of those offices when I'm not feeling well would make me feel really dizzy and off-balanced, but aesthetically, I love rooms like that.
Thanks for this!

Well, these are psychoanalyst offices, so for psychoanalysis patients (well, some anyway) do lie down. It's definitely not uncommon at least.

I also like the look of Phillip and his office...everyone else looks creepy or else their offices desperately make me want to throw a bunch of that crap into a box (or several, eek) and take it to Goodwill, STAT!

I would be more interested in everything around me than what the T was saying to me when it comes to those rooms!

That first one, I would feel dizzy just walking in!! What confusion and clutter....maybe it reflects her mind?

And the guy with that couch? Just creepy
